I am still very new to the game I have only played for two days. But so far I have enjoyed exploring relic spots but I also have a lot of time where I can only pay a little attention to the screen so I have been doing a lot of semi afk mining. I guess I am trying to get advice on for a newbie trying to do a split between Explorer and a miner.

What kind of skills, what kind of ships, and what kind of advice would you guys give me.

Is semi afk going to get me anywhere in the long run.so far I have been playing two days and have a round 20 mil but I realize that's not a lot of money.

Semi afk can be okay in highsec, but you'll eventually lose your ship to a ganker. It's just a matter of chances I guess.

So, I suggest you to enlist into a industry corporation then ask for advices there. You could also try http://www.eveuniversity.org/ which is top notch for newbies. In the meantime, try to go for the skills listed in the core certificates. You'll always need them.

Semi-afk could potentially work as low/null explorer once you acquire cloaking skills. Once you have that you can travel, probe and hack in short bursts, cloaking up and pausing after each stage.

Taking Rhnra Pahineh's point further it is now likely that you've been added to a ganker's watchlist, I imagine such folk monitor the forums ofr self confessed afkers.

As a ganker of miners, both semi-afk and totally afk, I can say that most aren't going to bother watchlisting a 2 day old newbro mining in his Venture. If you mine in hisec though, expect to be ganked. If you cry about it in local or in emails to your ganker, you will only feed their black hearts, and potentially their blogs. If ganked, laugh and type 'gf' in local. Then go buy another mining ship, if you must, and go back to it.

I don't know why mining is so attractive in Eve. Surely someone must like it. But it is the most boring occupation I think there is. For one thing, just calling it an "occupation" or "career" sounds bad. This is a video game. If you make it a job you won't have fun and eventually you'll quit and say "Eve is boring." When really Eve is hugely entertaining, but the entertainment comes from what you make of it. CCP doesn't provide the entertainment through story modes, quests, and dungeons to raid. You provide the entertainment by doing stuff.

Also, don't get to focused on what your "career" will be anyways. I've not been playing quite a year yet and I've done tons of different things. Some were not fun (mining). Some I expected to be fun, but were not (awoxing). Some were a huge adreneline rush and tons of fun (wardecs). Some make me a ton of isk and are fun (living in wormholes).

All that is my "go-go" Power Ranger speech to try to convince you that mining sucks the life from your soul and to do something else instead. Here is something concrete. Watch this video from Jonny Pew. He shows you how to outfit a very cheap ship to run data and relic sites in lowsec. The loot you get isn't great, but it is still pretty good. You will loose this ship. It will get exploded. But you should be able to make some isk and it will keep you out of the asteroid belts.

if your in to exploration and mining u can start doing manufacturing because both activities in eve will give u the materials u need for manufacturing the good stuffs so ... when u have little time to play mine , when u have more time run exploration and the soon to be ghost sites .


Should work well , when ur tired just create another toon and go do Fw or RvB
