An Idea for Expanding Chat accessibility

First let me start off by saying I am not a programmer. If this idea is programmatically infeasible feel free to shoot this idea down. Second I'm going to be mentioning Jabber. Please use this interchangeably with any other popular chat program. I'm most familiar with jabber.

The Idea: I think it would be really cool for CCP to work on a chat system that is not only accessible in game, but also out of game. if there was the ablity to use a chat client from a computer or smartphone that does not have eve installed it would be a great way to increase corporation involvement and allow people to interact while not near their main gaming computer. I realize many alliances or coalitions use something like jabber however if you are playing the game, you then have to alt-tab out to jabber to see what they are typing.

I'm not sure if the solution would be to make the in game chat accessible from third party clients. Or if third party chat protocols like jabber could be incorporated into eve right next to your in-game tabs. I think this would be a very cool addition to the set of tools avalable to the Eve Community. With Twitch integration coming I don't see why there couldn't be Jabber integration.

Thanks,
MAX

This may or may not be possible based on the implementation of the current chat system. I would love a mobile client for logging into characters that are in station and being able to use station services with no option to undock. Will we ever see it? Not in the forseeable future.

CREST seems to be the way they're doing that. It seems (from my view) to be a flyweight version of the client that has the potential to be run from devices like tablets, phones, etc. It logs in to Tranquility the same way your client does so you should be able to do nearly anything your char could do on the computer. Except undock. That's not happening anytime soon.
Skills, chatting, etc should be simple enough for mobile broadband to handle.

Dust mercs share chat channels. Dust voice chat is also integrated with Eve voice, although its unreliable. Doesn't sound too hard to do.

Never forget.
