I have been dabbling a bit in PI, just trying it out. this is in high sec btw

not too worried about the money at the moment. however I realised today that the customs office was ripping me off!!

I transferred 9460 units of biofuels to the office and paid 473000 isk tax

but the game estimated the consignment at 1100000 isk the unit price estimated at 116 isk each

I sold the biofuels at rens to an order of 110 isk each for 1040600

now forgive me but that is 43% and not the 10% stated at the customs office.

am I missing something here? can someone explain why I am paying 43%

You're not paying 43%. The prices the tax is based on are fixed, they're not the market prices of the items.

Search this forum for Tau PI tax and you should find his post listing the assumed values that the taxes are based upon.

btw, the inventory Est Price is incredibly wrong in most cases, it's not something you want to depend upon.

NPC taxes are going up to 17% with rubicon, so expect 17% to be the floor tax on POCOs.

which is a terrible idea if you ask me, and one people for some reason are either not noticing, or hoping not many people notice.

Nope.

http://community.eveonline.com/news/dev-blogs/player-owned-customs-offices-in-hi-sec
Quote:
The NPC tax will continue for hi sec POCOs (as we want low sec POCOs to still be competitive). The tax rate stays the same, at 10% for export and 5% for import. This is then in addition to whatever tax the player owner sets.

Then

Quote:
We are introducing a new trainable skill, Customs Code Expertise, which will reduce the NPC portion of the tax rate, but 10% per level (so at level 5 the NPC export tax rate will be 5% rather than 10%). Again, this skill only affects the NPC portion of the tax, not the player owner tax.

So NPC tax staying as it is, but can be lowered via a skill. Player corp tax being added

Edit: They're also changing the fixed values for each tier of product off which the taxes are calculated. So overall, NPC taxes will be dropping.

"It's to force carebears into Low/Null" Roll

I've been doing my PI in Low sec for 3 years. It's not really that hard or dangerous. Give it a try.

Taxes can be 0% in hisec with Rubicon if you blow up the interbus co and put up your own.

Again, quote from the dev blog:

So no 0% tax customs offices in highsec. Best possible is 0% player tax, 5% export tax and 2.5% import tax if you've trained the new skill to 5.

The epithal is a very very cheap ship.
It can fir 4 warp core stabs
Agility rigs are not expensive.
A cloak and a MWD can also be fitted.
Invulns in the rest of the mids.

You now have a ship that will escape almost all gate camps, needs 3-4 ships to land point before you can't warp off and can carry a ton of PI.
Why would you give up the much higher extraction rates from low sec with this low risk low cost ship available.
taxes are also lower in low sec usually.
