Drone: Fleet Assist

This idea is primarily for PvE. When you have your drones set to aggressive and you get attacked, they will automatically attack the aggressor. With a 'Fleet Assist' check box, if you are in a fleet with other ships that also have their drones out and set to aggressive (as well as have the 'Fleet Assist' option checked), all the drones will engage the aggressor.

They will not engage if it means that by doing so, you will get flagged unless you have your safety set to allow it.

or u l2eve and actually right click your drones and select assist = > playername and let him manage the tgt

or if you want to protect, use guard => player name.....

I don't do a whole lot in high sec, so excuse me if this sounds confused.

If you set your drones to assist, doesn't this currently expose you to being flagged?
I know many players want to keep all rights to dock, or jump out of gates in the event of PvP threats, so having your drone screw that up for them is unacceptable.

The fact that drones will automatically engage an aggressor if set to aggressive make this "counter argument" (I use that phrase quite loosely) moot.

If you tell your drones to assist someone and that someone decides to suicide gank someone else, your drones will assist (even if your ship's safety is green) and because you are the drone owner, CONCORD will take you out too.

So you tell your drones to guard them instead. Ok.

However, regardless if set to assist or guard, once you assign your drones to that person, If someone aggresses you, your drones won't automatically engage.

The purpose of the fleet assist (which I should've named 'Fleet Guard') is so that your drones are still assigned to you. However, they will engage a target that attacks a fleet mate just as they would engage a target that attacked you.

Best example would be rats that come in when mining.

Currently you can have your mining fleet at the belt, drones out, and when some rats come in and attack one of the ships, that ship's drones will automatically take out the rats. Fleet mates have to lock on and tell their drones to attack. What this option would do is simply allow all the drones in the fleet to attack as long as the criteria are met.

-Drones set to aggressive (they wouldn't automatically engage otherwise)
-Ships are in fleet together
-Each ship has the "Fleet Assist" checked off (if not, your drones will only attack rats that attack you and not fleet mates)

The rats in hi-sec are laughable anyway. It's when you get into null/npc space that one set of 5 mediums simply takes too long to pop the rats.

Suicide ganking is another good example. Sure CONCORD is going to get them eventually, but when someone first engages you, they are flagged so anyone can retaliate. A fleet of ships with drones out could be enought to pop the ganker before the ganker pops the mining barge and even before CONCORD shows up. They start ganking, become flagged as criminal, and now an entire fleet worth of drones swarm them.

As someone who is not far from operating an Orca in High-sec, I too have concerns over the lack of cooperation between drones when in a fleet.

At the moment I am commanding my fledgling fleet from my Mackinaw. I have 5 Tech II drones flying CAP around me.

I have had inexperienced Venture pilots with me when 3-4 rats attack. The rats seem to prefer to target the weaker ships (bare in mind this is 0.5 space so a lower level Venture with only 2 tech-I drones has trouble enduring for long.). By the time I've figured out who is being attacked and set my drones to guard him/her, the Venture has popped. Granted the Venture should have probably warped out if he/she were low on frigate survival skills, but would it be too much to ask for the whole swarm of drones (mine and everyone else's) to have responded without prompting?

I understand the flagging issue this could represent, but the option of having the fleets' drones running on Swarm Logic would be nice... even if the execution comes in the form of a mid-slot module or somesuch. I'd be willing to give over my Survey Scanner for the benefit of my weaker/less experienced fleet-mates.
