I hope this is the right place... I joined Eve because I heard that fights were super awesome and intense. Well, apparently they are, but I think I'm doing it wrong? I joined militia because its where the pvp is at but the fight I got into it didnt look like i did anything in it?

Does anyone have advice that I can use?

I guess I should give more details. I was flying a Punisher with Masers? I found the fit somewhere online, I forget where. Anyone have any fits that actually work that you could share?

There are different types of PVP that call for different tactics. Nullsec PVP tends to be larger fleets usually ran by Fleet Commanders, where Lowsec has a lot of small gang and solo PVP with Faction Warfare. The thing about PVP in EVE is that you WILL lose a lot of ships. Do some research regarding types of PVP, tactics, and find out what looks best for you. Then dig in, meet some people, and learn by losing. Every ship loss is a lesson to learn.

In addition, there are a lot of PVP streamers on twitch that re-cap their fights. What went right, what went wrong, etc. Additionally, when you lose, feel free to convo the person that you fought. A lot of PVPers will share tips on how they found you, what you did wrong, how to become better.

First thing - to PVP you need a method of preventing the opponent escaping. The usual one is a Warp Scrambler module or a Warp Disruptor module. (Some situations require or allow different options such as Heavy Interdictor bubbles but they are advanced).

Secondly, you need an opponent and you should try to choose them yourself without them realising they have been chosen. In high security, you can shoot your corporation members (player made corps only, not NPC ones). Whilst this can be used for practice in cheap ships, it works better if you surprise someone in their expensive PVE ship that isn't capable of applying damage to your ship effectively at all.

If you pick the right target, you might be able to extract ransoms of hundreds of millions of ISK.

PVP has many "types" in EVE, there are solo PVP, small gang fleets, large gang fleets, cap fleets and black-ops and other types
FW tend to be small gang fleets most of the time, though there might be large fleets or even cap fights from time to time

When you do your first fleet ever you will feel like you did nothing at all, because the difference between your ship (fit-wise) and the ships the other older fleet-mates are having, and this is not an issue!

Do note and ACCEPT that you WILL lose pods and ships almost every time you go in a roam with your friends, and that is not a bad thing, I had tons of losemails and I am proud of them Lol, because now, due to those lots of losemails, I almost laugh when I'm about to lose my ship even if it was a shiny 1 billion pirate or faction one.

In 2-3 weeks you can manage to get a full fitted frigate with T2 stuff, and then you can feel like you did some damage in the fleet run... with time, you will find yourself more comfortable with what you can do with ships and fits.

It is not a big deal now you see yourself like this, because EVE is a time AND skill game, the more time you spend in it, the more skills you get (to fly ships AND to fly them in the right way).

You might want to consider doing some EWAR as well, it is the most awesome thing that anyone even a day-old in game or 10-years old can do! (go jam stuff LolLol), you might even enjoy some rage mails/private/local chats towards you for being the EWAR hero in your fleet Twisted

I would recommend a corp such as RvB or EvE Uni for learning PvP, it's a great, inexpensive way to get started and there's plenty of new players in both corps so you won't be alone. In FW it's a bit like throwing yourself in the deep end, especially when you're in the Caldari FW NPC corp which you are currently in.

google "eve battleclinic loadouts" to get very good source of different fits. Best users even add tactic tips to the fit description, like what range to keep, how to counter different kind of ships, what to engage etc...

Below are some fits for coercer, punisher and an executioner and my love (Griffin) that might help you.
Some people might not agree with some parts of the fits, but this is just an example of fits that can help in fleets, and you can change them to suit your needs as long as you know the purpose of the ship you are flying

[Coercer, Standard]
200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I
Heat Sink II
Adaptive Nano Plating II

Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I
Faint Warp Disruptor I

Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Imperial Navy Multifrequency S

Small Trimark Armor Pump I
Small Trimark Armor Pump I
Small Trimark Armor Pump I

* Can do up to 230dps
* Has 6.8 EHP (might be less for you)
* Replace T2 stuff you cannot use with best named mods of meta4. and you should still get good results.

[Executioner, Tackle]
Nanofiber Internal Structure II
Adaptive Nano Plating II
Damage Control II

Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I
Faint Warp Disruptor I
Fleeting Propulsion Inhibitor I

Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Small Diminishing Power System Drain I

Small Auxiliary Thrusters I
Small Auxiliary Thrusters I
Small Energy Ambit Extension I

* This fit does not do damage, it is for tackling targets on gate camps, with proper skills you can get an insta-lock with this.
* Also change the T2 stuff to the best named mods of meta4.
* Can reach up to 3.6km/s with MWD on.

[Punisher, Punisher]
Damage Control II
Adaptive Nano Plating II
Heat Sink II
200mm Reinforced Rolled Tungsten Plates I

Initiated Harmonic Warp Scrambler I
Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I

Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Dual Light Pulse Laser II, Scorch S
Small Diminishing Power System Drain I

Small Trimark Armor Pump I
Small Trimark Armor Pump I
Small Trimark Armor Pump I

* My personal favorite fit, gives you 7k EHP, later when you get good fitting skills you can replace the 200mm plate with a 400mm one and get 9K EHP.
* This is a brawler ship, means it needs to get close to targets to apply its damage.
* Can do about 120dps with IN MF crystals.
* Replace T2 stuff you cannot use with the best named modules of meta4.

[Griffin, Rainbow]
'Hypnos' Signal Distortion Amplifier I
Capacitor Power Relay II

BZ-5 Neutralizing Spatial Destabilizer ECM
Enfeebling Phase Inversion ECM I
'Hypnos' Ion Field ECM I
'Umbra' White Noise ECM
Limited 1MN Microwarpdrive I

'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I, Mjolnir Rocket
'Arbalest' Rocket Launcher I, Mjolnir Rocket

Small Particle Dispersion Augmentor I
Small Particle Dispersion Augmentor I
[empty rig slot]

* I had my best fun times with this fit when I started doing PVP in Amarr militia, it was awesome every time you go out in fleet and be the reason to win a fight, or save a fleet-mate ship from blow up when you spread your jams on the enemies... and because it is so cheap, I did not care when I lost it, I had like 10 replacements ready in my hangar for fast reshipping.
* This fit is to jam the 4 races ships.
* The cheapest fit for ECM with T2 strength, it's maximum value can to up to 2 million ISK only!.
* You need to be cap stable on this one (to maintain your support for your fleet through constant jamming as long as the fight goes, that if you haven't been poped already Lol) and BE AT RANGE at minimum 55km from your enemy (so you can be out of drone attack range).
* When you get the perfect skills for this fit, you will be cap stable with the MWD on, and you will get stronger jamming points and more successful jamming cycles, as well as longer range!

Check recruitment forum about FW corps ads
When you want to join one, before you do that, check their numbers and if you can go to zkillboards or similar site and see how are their kills going.

I had a similar issue of getting my head around pvp.

1. Accept you will loose ships and potentially your pod. Therefore:
2. Learn to fit a cheap ship and learn to fly it well

I picked up a lot from dueling people to hull and from the awesome RvB

On a side note, think about having a steady stream of ISK to pay for ships and modules. Helps you not worry about loosing ships

As a new pilot you need to make sure you have an income so you can afford to fly and lose ships.

I would try to find players who are skilled at the game, fun to fly with, and enable you to contribute in a meaningful way to their gangs. I, personally, found solo PvP to be incredibly frustrating early on, but incredibly fun and challenging once I got more sp and experience.

Note that most people suggest looking for a group to fly with. I'd suggest also you get on voice comms with them before joining, have a chat and gauge whether or not they are supportive of newbies. Also in gang PVP voice comms are a must, being capable of hopping onto Teamspeak quickly is more important then SP. Don't let SP requirements fool you, most corps aren't that strict on SP levels if you are willing to skill towards their fleet doctrines.

Greetings to the State Directorate:

I never use anyone else's fits for a ship; I may use them and study the fits for their strengths and weaknesses and compare them to my own style of gameplay; but before I do that I need to know that PVE ship fits ARE NOT PVP ship fits.

I played for about 3 months; left for 7 now I am back; and I learned alot more in 7 days than I did in 3 months about PVP and I havnt died nor have I even done any ratting or missions yet; NOW I AM READY !

LEARN YOUR FRIGATES FROM EVERY FACTION. THIS MAY TAKE A GOOD YEAR.

Then, supposedly you know what faction you will be in for the rest of your Eve career, like Caldari in this case, and you know that you may want to use long range missiles maybe or whatever Caldari ships have bonuses for (you need to research that for yourself with some guidance maybe and ask questions like you did here but be more specific); and this takes time.

After a good month of general and core skill building doing PVE missions for a good few months, you can learn some PVP in the meantime.

I would say 2-3 months will make or break anyone in Eve; I took a break and now I am back for a second try.

I dont want to give out spoilers but in fact I learned some the last few nights that I didnt know last year when I started and I never would have understood hadnt I played for a couple months; that is what it takes to learn PVP here.

Why do the modules followed by "II" seem to be so much harder to use (skills, price, etc)? Am I missing something? I cant fly those recomended ships because I can't use the "II" modules, can I somehow fix that other than waiting forever for the skills?

If you look at the 'Variations' tab on those modules you will see alternate modules that do the same thing.

For each one you can look up its 'meta level' under attributes. Meta 4 modules are easy to fit, (usually) affordable, and are not far behind tech 2 in performance. They are often a bit more expensive than the tech 2 version however.

The skills required to fit T2 modules, however, are almost always things you will want to train anyway.
