EVE looks really gorgeous, I love the ambiance, but it feels like the combat special effects fall short.

I saw this video this morning; http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=jmjJpy4ubgs#t=86s

I can only imagine how epic combat would feel with those effects!

then watching your own computer explode trying desperately to keep up with all that in any kind of fleet fight. not to mention that the 'shrapnel' from those explosions just looks like smaller models of the ship blowing up flying off in all directions.

It's just sad how Eve graphics look worse than a decade old game.

What I particularly like about the effects in that video;

-Visual display of shields being hit
-Colorful and partical heavy explosion
-Impressive sounds to accompany the explosions

It all gives a lot more intensity to the combat.

There is also the I-Novae Engine, a procedural game engine (still under developement), which creates a universe with an infinite number of ultra-realistic stellar system.

For example, here is the demo for this engine, taken in real time.

Here also shot a video of a prototype (ICP : Infinity Compat Prototype), taken from a very old version of the I-Novae engine (2006):

That tech demo shows off the gorgeous scenery. The space is impressive. It's quite similar to EVE with all those high definition nebulas. The game seems to be closer to a flight simulator though - you can even manually enter the atmosphere of planets. That's a nice touch. It wouldn't be very appropriate for EVE though, not at the moment at least.

I would be more interested in the actual visual and sound effects of weapons.
