All Europe stuff should have been sent DHL... This is just a major grip for Canadians getting our stuff from the USA, because UPS has a long history of extorting high brokerage fees for cross-border shipments.

For all you guys worried about being forced to pay UPS's brokerage fees you do NOT have to pay what they demand if you pickup forms from the UPS depot and go to the customs clearance office yourself to pay the taxes.

The UPS depot in Winnipeg often outright offers these forms and gives directions to customers on how to clear the shipment and pay the taxes yourself as an independent broker because UPS's own brokerage fees are highway robbery and the staff knows it.

I dont recall the exact terminology for doing this but in my city it involved visiting the UPS depot, advising them your going to have the shipment cleared yourself and asking to pickup forms from the UPS office then visiting the canada customs office at the airport to get the forms filled out by a canada customs official then pay the taxes and return to UPS with the forms you will have to give them a copy of to pickup your shinies.

I do this every time i have something shipped into the country via UPS and i often pay 75% less than what UPS's own brokerage would charge.

UPS also cannot legally deny you the right to clear the shipment with your own private customs broker and must provide you these forms on request.

Got zero extra charge here. Package went through Germany on Friday, held up during the weekend then by UPS delivered at my door on Tuesday.

Thumbs up smiley.

Slight edit...

I actually called UPS regarding this...

Besides being slightly shifty with telling you they deliver DHL and sending it UPS...

There apperently isn't any extra costs...

Same, the deliverer came today, and didn't ask me for any fees.
Let's hope they won't send us a surprise invoice.

People can go to the nearest customs office, yes - but most Canadians do not live in a port city. I certainly don't ;)

Meh, Troll food. The issue isn't us expecting a border tax fee, that is to be expected. The issue is UPS blatantly bases there brokerage on total value of an item, versus a flat rate everyone else does, and on top of the shipment handlling fee, and government taxes. 'Paperwork' for a tiny box is the same as a larger box, it;s value is irrelevant. But UPS does this for things shipped out of the US.You don't get the same treatment from UPS with domestic shipments in the USA, so you wouldn't know what we are on about. Would you pay $80 for brokerage on top of the original shipping costs, in addition to sales tax on top of a $150 item?

USPS for example, charge a flat $5 fee which is fair for 'paperwork', which in this day and age is just scanning some barcode anyway. FedEx, DHL, and others tend to have small, but fair fees...nothing like UPS, which has had a number of class action lawsuits over the years for this sort of practice.

Um...it takes 10s of millions of USD for even the cheapest company to get something to even low earth orbit. Having the CE shipped to a moon of Jupiter is going to cost just a bit more.

Since the cessation of their usefulness is imminent, may I appropriate your belongings?

I am pleased to announce that my CE has arrived. It was slated to arrive on Monday but arrived Friday. Also, UPS passed it off to Purolater to deliver. This means it was delivered to my door and I did not have to pay any fees!

BTW, the CE is great!

First Musterbrand failed to update the shipping address after I did the update over a month ago. So it was delivered to the wrong address today. Managed to get it held over the phone until Monday when the office in town opens up again only to find out I will be charged an additional 60.50 to get the goddamn package. If I knew this addition was going to be tacked on because these idiots can't use a decent shipping company I wouldn't have bought the thing at all.

1) the UPS man is probably pushing his truck in a snowbank somewhere (because it's canada)
2) He may have been beaten up by a bunch of men wearing bane masks
