Character / Quarters Expansion Brainstorming (Including some WiS)

(Could not find a topic on brainstorming captains quarters improves/character customization/lore integration and after posting some of these ideas in a few other topics, decided to bring them here. Now with a few more ideas included:)

DISCLAIMER:
EVE is forever a game of internet spaceships. And thanks to CCP those spaceships have gotten better and better, balanced, and fixed. With much more to come, time-dilation has in many ways fixed server stability from when Incarna first came out. They've done an amazing job catering to starships and fixing issues. Nine years playing and forever a PvPer, I can vouch.

But what they haven't catered very hugely to has been the players' characters mingling in the overall world:

Nine years and there's still a wall between the players and the massive lore-filled world that is EVE Online. In fact, there's been a decline of the characters' ability to express their uniqueness since Incarna's new character editor, especially within key racial features.

Yet we were finally able to venture outside the capsule. However, we're never allowed to show face beyond the captains quarters. The door leading out has always been the bane of internet spaceships' existence and so we've not prospected beyond.

Would love to set the mood toward expanding (slowly) into revisiting the world beyond the capsule, especially now that EVE Online truly is in a better place since Incarna. Would love to see other players' opinions and their own ideas yet also the critique of if these ideas will take away from the game.


PROPOSED IDEAS (will remove or add with enough feedback, bare in mind there are possibly topics already out there for certain ideas. Be sure to check the Rules of this forum for a list):

1. More character customization. Specifically toward the differences of the other races. (As in more wartat options with Minmatar, skimpier wear with Gallente, etc.) Would be interesting if included sub-racial exclusive items. (Khanid Cyberknight wear, Brutor deactivated slave collars.)

1a. Ability to sell racial specific customization items (provided within LP stores) to other races.

1b. Drug-induced/over-use appearance effects. (Would imagine in a menu following "Scars")

1c. More augmented limbs. (A trending request from Crime & Punishment)

2. Ability to interact and get to know NPCs would be nice. (Such interviewing/interrogating assets of missions, such as the militants you just scooped, the damsel, the freedom fighter. -could possibly open doors for alternative mission ending options, where instead of completing the mission for your corporation, you cater to another questionable party. [Could allow a slow building of standings toward other factions/corporations while taking a {skill modified} hit to your own corp's.])

2a. Ability to interact with your agents face-to-face, especially if from a place of dominance and fear-inducing. In time with enough standing, you could modify this reception to something more friendly.

3. Ability to assign passengers to your captains quarters. (They would come with assorted props and would change various places around the captain's quarters with each visit.)

4. Ability to further customize planets you've set up base on, even having standings with that world. Some improvements suggested may empower (/personalize) the world more than actually help the capsuleer out, yet improving standings with the planet and overall efficiency of the P.I. interactions.

5. Ship crew evaluation. A section within quarters or the station for customizing crew/potential crew, varying per area of space and standings with the corporation owning said station. A prior (and much older) thread containing more veteran players' recommendations for crew ideas can be located here. Brief personal opinion: Crews should be able to affect an implant's worth of benefits to the ship. (These mechanics may open doors later for boarding actions, another idea that has been tossed around.) (Present crew stats in lore, as provided by CCP, and link to one of CSM's recommendations of their use.]

6. Emotes for your character. Preferably ability to switch idle animations. (ex. /happy shifts idle animation until leaving quarters to character being overall happy.) (Would not appear in chat as /me is the current command used to imply an emote via chat.)

7. Corporate war rooms. (Integrates DUST characters.) Accessed remotely applies an occasional flickering animation to the character, implying your character is being holographically projected. Similar mechanics could be used for inviting players to capsuleer quarters.

8. Capsuleer Clubs/Bars at notable stations (while in every player outpost).

8a. Ability to customize dance styles (perhaps another method for customizing idle animations [#6] too).

9. Additional actions within captains quarters. (Everyone's wondered why you can't lay down in your own bed.)

10. Buyable props for captains quarters. (Preferably a trophy case of your favorite [account-linked?] DUST merc?) (Perhaps a display [/freezer] case for an assigned frozen corpse?)

11. Collector's Edition Pod actually visible in CQ. People paid for it.

hmm i think ccp needs to work the cq more.

my ideas is first we r in a space station. The Captain Quarter is far to large, needs to be more cramped. But u should be able to rent an "apartment", which u can also prop like u want. You should be able to leave your quarters and visit a hangar gallery, market place, Laboratories, Production places and ofcourse the Corperation Offices. The Corp Offices should also be freely adjustable by the CEO's of the corp.

Interacting with an Agent should follow direct conversation or via hologram.

Clothes i personally dont give a rats ass aslong as we only have those little rooms for ourselfes.

if u mean like pets maybe, but let them be realistic (Cats, Dogs, Leguan, Girl-/Boyfriend)

personally i think its not logic to have a crew an a capsuler ship, because nobody would hire on when the captain of the ship doesnt care if it gets blown up as long as it doesnt hurt his isk balance to much.

Yes Ships have to be at the fore but there ARE at least a number of us who would like to see the WiS concepts more fleshed out. After 6 years and 5 active accounts - sometimes - well I find myself sitting in the CQ a lot whilst doing industry and PI. I still make the walk from the landing pad to the couch every time I land each of my 5 toons. I'd really love this to be expanded.

Even one of those crappy Bioware betting games.
Better yet, rip of Magic The Gathering but spaceify it with Eve themes. Buy trading cards on the market to build your deck, winner takes the isk plus one random card from your deck.

Anything that you can conceivably put an isk bet on you winning vs someone else. Perhaps allow 3rd party betting, but mainly for the players involved. Any amount can be bet fror 1 isk to 10 trillion isk but both players put down the same amount. I know several exist outside game, but put them in stations.

The funny thing is that for a long time we (all the roleplayers) beat up the idea of crews on ships. There were talks (especially as ship size got bigger) that the capsuleer couldn't completely command their vessel.

And then CCP put the hammer down and made it official:

New Eden crew guidelines.

Note the contributors. >.<

Now, the next big question one asks is how do we use them? And currently CSM is dabbling with that potential idea here.

I like where you're going. Yet for any kind of 3rd party support you'll be facing a very heated issue presently going on within the community. Maybe worth pushing that idea later?

As for traditional games able to be played in the captains quarters, I think CCP would point to the ingame browser for that. :\

I'm not sure if I missed it but I'm surprised nobody mentioned having the ability for multiple players to be in the same room together. Board room meeting? Card games with gambling? Or just hanging out in the corp office?

The Corporate War room idea up there includes it. :3 ...as well as future support for people visiting your quarters.

I hink and WiS implementation to be meaninfull need to be intergated with the major EVE gameplay.

The first base step for this integration is to be part of the normal EVE market and production mechanics.This mean adding new industry layers for cloths, forniture, modules and any WiS-related items. Problem here is that to work these items should be destructable; they could be fixed with a decay over time mechanics for these items. This could be a problem cause is concept currently not present in EVE.

Beside the CQ extensions (here even only 4-5 slots for multiavatar CQ could be enough) advanced WiS modules should be added as anchorable modules (to a revamped POS system, POCO, new rubicon deployable or whatever). Basically allowing players to build their own small town in the space.

I would love WiS to get some more things to do. I also wish I could but upgraded quarters with more rooms.

I think that's part of assigning passengers to the captains quarters. In other words, already up on the list. xD :3
