How would EvE be without Alts ?

I keep wondering how EVE would have turned out if everyone was only allowed one single character, like having it linked to passport number or something.


  • Would the mighty Phaser Inc, Titans4U, Guiding Hand Social Club, etc. scams have happened ?
  • Would Band of Brother still be active ?
  • Would there be so many corp thieve/gankers ?
  • Would there be so many “Pirates” and Suicide gankers if being a pirate would mean no access to Hi-sec trade hubs ? There might be low-sec trade hubs but I can hardly imagine the chaos.


I wonder if we EvE players would still have such unethical behavior if we would be facing the consequences of their actions by making it impossible to change our identity (scam people, buy 200m SP character, profit).

Perhaps this has already been discussed but after a quick search I didn’t find anything.

There would be little to no Meta, high sec would be empty, the market would be more expensive, there would be lot less hot drops. Having to trust people to light cynos...

the galaxy would feel a lot smaller

we wouldn't have some of the more colourful personalities that anonymity allows

Without alts ... less player, but probably also by far less spies.
But i also think the game would be more interesting to actually in it's activities.

Due to CCP's ToS, there are no alts in Eve Online.

You cannot say you are an alt of someone else or say that "so-and-so" alt is mine.

So, Eve is just doing great since there are not any alts in this game.

there just wouldnt be as many people in as many places scamming and trading with people alts they may even know really well :)

It adds a weird sense of family that friends have.

Like you dont know your mates brother, because when you find out it is your friends bother, you cut him the same slack you might your friend.

ultimately i think it adds more to the game than it adds to the individual with 3 alts they actually use on one account, than it does for them personally.

Lots of games ban you for multi-accounting (eff you, Travian).
Some simply look the other way.
Only EVE *encourages* it.

That was the point, though it too late to nerf alts.
The thread was mostly intended to speculate on any possible change in the universe and player behavior.

it would be a better game. But its impossible to enforce thats why no game out there is restricting alts.

how to fix eve: 1) remove ECM 2) rename dampeners to ECM 3) add new anti-drone ewar for caldari 4) give offgrid boosters ongrid combat value

Phaser Inc was funny, just because it was a failed scam but they managed to convince people they actually stole a silly amount of isk.

Well, I have 2 accounts, but rarely ever use my 2nd account and if I decided to not pay for it anymore I wouldn't really notice.

I'm not a jesusfreak about RP or anything, but I definitely like seeing how far I can push my own decisions (I considered buying a cap pilot once but dismissed it as I did not train the account up myself).

Not that I'm saying you should or should not have multiple accounts, but it isn't my preference.

Funnily enough, I'll use my multi monitor setup to play multiple games at once, but not multiple players in the same game.
