Botters, AFK-ers, Dust, CCP and Hilmar Veigar Pétursson`s mea culpa

I am getting pretty tired of EVE. Not so much with fellow players but more with CCP`s seemingly callous attitude towards it`s customers. At times it even feels as if CCP looks at their paying customers as simply a means to an end, and that end being whatever they feel like doing at the moment. Case in point, I have reported a certain botter going on 3 weeks and this is the response I get:

My submission:

Actually yes, I have reported botter as instructed for the last few days and yet Alexey777 is still in 4KON-J. To be honest, I am really confused why you won`t address the bot issue after NUMEROUS reports; I mean why even have a special bot complaint category if you refuse to do anything. I have been reporting this botter now going on 3 weeks. So it takes 3 weeks for you do stop a botter? Really?

CCP reply:

Please do not post GM correspondence on the forums. Spitfire

So I am curious what constitutes whether a botter, who is clearly a botter, is sanctioned or not? Moreover my complaint was that it is taking so much time to address the complaint. Not whether the botter is actually a botter or not. That is for CCP to ultimately decide. But if they are unwilling to take said action in a reasonable space of time, I would have to question whether Hilmar Veigar Pétursson`s recent interview stating they were going back to the basics and focusing on EVE truly has any merit.

Of course complaining about a botter isn`t my only peave about CCP; there is it`s illogical approach to DUST which I see as an inevitable failure and it`s constant refusal to do anything about afk-ers. As a result, I am closing 2 of my 3 paying accounts and logging onto my main to SKILL TRAIN until it`s year subscribtion is expired; at that point I will see what direction EVE has taken which I assume will be for the worse. Especially if they keep their eyes focused on a console game that many EVE players won`t be able to access. And as for botters and afk-ers, it`s their call: they can lose customers who play or customers who are not here.

In the meantime I will no longer support them financially and am more than happy to join the other 8% who feel CCP has lost it`s focus and direction. It was fun while it lasted but EVE has lost it`s appeal. Sadly, CCP only have themselves to blame for that.

I agree with your post ... obvious botter is obvious.

As an aside, have you tried just killing him repeatedly? At some point the ship losses start to outweigh the mining gains.

All you're saying about the supposed botter is "It's clearly a botter." How so? I used to mine on my carebear and what I'd do was make a bookmark near an asteroid and warp my hulk to it, mine till cargohold was full and then warp back to station, unload and warp back to the belt. Auto reject on all private convos and never talked in local as I was having fun talking to all my acquaintences in other channels, I was using eve as an IRC with a mining simulator.

Was I clearly a bot?

You people are silly. Bots pay subs. They also play the game, and don't post on the forums. They prop up EVE's economy with a constant supply of ISK and minerals, and they don't whine to CCP for changes.

Bots are the perfect customers.

I wrote some true EVE stories! And no, they're not of the generic "my 0.0 alliance had lots of 0.0 fleets and took a lot of 0.0 space" sort. Check them out here:

I'm not a 100% sure about this, but I think ccp has said something about this in the past. The reason they don't do anything about them, is because thay want to see where the isk goes. So instead of just getting 1 bot, they get the people buying from this bot aswell.
They had a huge operation against these people about 1-2 years ago, where they got a huge amount of botters, rmt and rmt buyers.

I always find comments like the OPs very depressing. Yes if you look at the world with a horizon at the end of your nose then you can see 1 botter and "WHY HASN"T IT BEEN REMOVED"

but just perhaps spend a moment thinking of the bigger picture:

All MMOs have gold miners, botters etc. Indeed it has become such a well known phenomenon that there are at least a couple of novels based on the premise. These are run by organised groups. Proper commercial organisations.

Yes you could tackle these a bot at a time and never join up the dots. But this is just wack-a-mole.

likewise for 'simple techniques for fixing the problem'. The organisations doing the gold mining also have developers, at least as smart as the ones working for the people running the MMO. It's an arms race.

I am sure that CCP do look at the problem and do have strategies for working on it. But as mentioned elsewhere on this thread it is a war not a single battle. It's often worth intelligence gathering.

I don't understand what the big deal with Dust is. Lots of people who don't have much money seem to have ps3 and xbox. They want to try tapping into the console market let them give it a go it might work out. They can always put out a PC version if it doesn't work. If they made Dust for the PC first, it'd get over run with people who already play EVE and wont get a new group of people involved in EVE.
