Hello everyone. I recently asked my mates in alliance chat about whether I should train to T2 guns, and they advised me not to do that and wait until the expansion because of the changes that are coming to this skill set with Rubicon. I would like to get more info about this change. Will it let me train faster for T2/bigger guns? Or is there something specific that will be changed? Thank you, fly safe.

Basically each type of T2 gun will no longer require that you train the next size down before hand. So training T2 guns will be just like training T2 missiles. Source.

So yes, training into T2 large guns will be much faster after Rubicon hits TQ.

However that doesn't mean that you aren't going to want to train T2 small and medium guns as well. Most of your PvP fights will probably not be in a battleship or attack battle cruiser.

Yeah, one of the better changes to come to skill training in quite some time.

In Rubicon you can "pick and choose" so if you like say Amarrian frigates, Minmatar cruisers, and Gallente's Battleships now the training will be much easier. Where as before if you liked Gallente BSs and you trained for those T2 large guns you might have felt "more obligated" to use Gallente frigs and cruisers just because you already had the T2 guns for them even if you didn't like those ships for whatever reason.

Train the support skills while you wait. Many of those are just as important as the T2 gun itself.

Thank you all for your replies. Now I definitely support the idea that it is a good change.

Now to change missiles where you don't have to train a separate skill for close and long range versions. For example if I want both medium T2 blasters and railguns I would need medium hybrid turret to 5 then then the two specialization skills to 1. For medium T2 missiles you need heavy missiles to 5, heavy assault missiles to 5 then the two specialization skills to 1.

While i'm not totally against this change i'm not a huge fan and there is now a fairly large imbalance in training Gunnery vs Missiles.

As mentioned above you end up having to train 2 skills to get one size of missile and just 1 for gunnery (excluding specs) this used to be off set by the prerequisites for gunnery.

Not to mention that gunnery support skills all apply for 3 weapon systems while missiles apply to 1 and the fact that missiles skills are more important to get to 5 than Gunnery (a lot of 10% skills with missiles and mostly 5% for gunnery)

That's not true. Missile support skills like Target Nav Prediction, Missile Projection etc... apply to all missiles, e.g. rockets, light missiles, heavy missiles, cruise missiles, torps etc...

I don't think you understand what I meant. When I say weapon system I mean Missiles, Hybrids, Lasers and Projectiles as a whole.

Missiles Skills apply to missiles only, there are 2 types of missiles per size (Short and Long ranges). Gunnery Skills apply to 6 types of guns per size (Blaster, Rails, Arty, Autos, Pulse, Beam).

Unless youre an alt, the changes shouldnt effect you at all since you are still going to want to train all sizes of guns to T2.
May as well start doing it now if it's on your queue list.

I see your point, but the support skills cover the classifications of damage dealing weapon systems rather than the type and the two classifications that are ship fitted are turrets and bays. Think of the support skills as skills that cover each classification and they make more sense.
