Having lived in WHs with a couple of great alliances over the last couple of years one of the things that always causes major frustration is the lack of Alliance bookmarks. We all accept that it would be great but it has been implied by CCP that this would present quite a few technical challenges and isn't really imminent.

I believe that this is probably due to the clunky way that the bookmark UI and underlying code appears to work and also probably something to do with the lack of an alliance 'roles' framework.

I have a suggestion that occurred to me after reviewing some of the awesome small UI changes made by CCP Karkur and her colleagues:

Could bookmarks somehow be attached to mails and sent to anyone? This would get rid of the silly '5 at a time' drag and drop thing and also obviate the need for any new role structures for alliances to control the distribution of bookmarks.

Essentially, someone scans the bookmark set and sends it to the corp as an attachment (or series of attachments). These are then drag/dropped into the corp bookmark folder by a corp member with the appropriate roles. An awesome further feature would be the automatic detection and resolution of duplicates when the drag and drop takes place.

I realise that this isn't as perfect as just having alliance bookmarks work the same way as corp bookmarks, but I wonder if its possible or if anyone thinks it has merit? In my opinion it would at least make the whole bookmark management process quicker and simpler.

now you're replacing one difficult and timeconsuming thing to implement for another (there is no system for attachments, so why you think this is any easier then alliance bookmarks is beyond me)

decreasing the painfullness of syncing bookmarks would be the best solution for now, aka removing that 5 per drag limit

Being able to drag bookmarks into chat is all that is needed, if we can communicate across vast distances in space why can't we communicate locations in space?!?

If i remember correctly from past CSM comments the problem is with alliances not the bookmark UI.
The alliances were a quick fix that is not easy to change it all ties into the security system and the standing settings .
So it that would go bonkers the results would be enormous!
So they have to get that right from the start.
While it is indeed interresting to have alliance bookmarks because of that it won't be soon.
E-mailing bookmarks is a good idea though.
But it would not change a lot , it still needs a lot of organising. I feel that copying them is still easier to maintain and to keep uptodate.
But removing or enlarging the copy limit might be easier to do and would help a lot even for k-space.

No local in null sec would fix everything!

Hi,

I've moved your thread to the Features and Ideas as it's a more appropriate location.

Thanks.

I don't know if it is easier, but equally you don't know if its harder. I am taking the metaphor that is already in place (lots of things are now drag and drop) and extending it conceptually to an already familiar concept - i.e. email attachments.

Its an idea for discussion, so thanks for your feedback. Smile
