procurer vs skiff?

Looking at the attributes I see the following differences:
skiff: ~10% more structure HP (5500 vs 6000) 10% more armor HP (5000 vs 5500)
drones: twice as much capacity and bandwidth
ore capacity: 25% (12K vs 15K)
capacitor: 12.5% (800 vs 900)
max velocity: 122% (90 vs 200)

bonuses: skiff 20% bonus to all shield resistances
skiff 5% strip miner yield (for exhumer lvl 5)

slots: skiff +1 mid -1 rig

Question: Why do people upgrade to the skiff? Isn't the procurer strong enough already compared to the small increase in yield and ore capacity?

Why do people upgrade from a hurricane to a sleipnir? From a rifter to a wolf?

Because to them its worth it.

It also has 500 more shield, combined with the resist bonus and extra mid slot i'd guess it has a much larger tank by quite a bit.

I pew you too! <3

For hisec? Sure. For nullsec? Perhaps not.

You'll notice that this trend is everywhere in EVE... where linear increases in power come at exponentially higher costs.

For example: a proper gank-fit frigate can pump out somewhere around 200 damage per second and costs about 10 million... a proper "brawler" battleship puts out about 900 to 1000 damage per second and costs about 300 million altogether.

That's about a 3000% increase in cost for a mere 80% increase in damage.

Thanks, I was trying to figure out the gain for spending the 30+ days to train into an exhumer vs training something else. I wondered if the extra set of drones was the main benefit, but sounds like it's mostly survivability.

right, I'm on my phone and doing this off the top of my [sleep deprived] head. I'll come back and edit it correctly later.

I realize many don't do mining missions, but if you do them there are quite a few that require slowboating long distances to the rock(s), the exhumers are more than twice as fast as the mining barges.Blink
