Ship Purchase Conumdrum

I am sure this question must have been asked many times before on this forum but my searches have proved unsuccessful so I will ask here.

I have just purchased a ship that is one jump away from me, how do I go about picking it up? I could use one of my ships but then that would have to be left behind as I can only fly one ship at once. I know that the new ship can be re-packaged to make it smaller (it's a Retriever btw) , but would it fit in my Vexor?

Another option I thought of is to pod my way there, but, of course, there are safety considerations to take into account.

What do other people do on these occasions?

Undock in your pod, make the one system jump, fetch ship
Or
Undock in your pod, dock at another station in system to get a free rookie ship, fly that to the location the new ship is at and then destroy the rookie ship once you're there.

A packaged retriever is 3750m3. A vexor's (base) cargo hold is 480m3

Many thanks Elana, both great ideas, I will ponder at my leisure. :)

Fly a rookie ship or shuttle and sell it when you get to your new ship. Podding over there is *ok*, but any ship is better.

I hear about people who spend hours making sure all assets are positioned in exactly the right place, but I think theyre in the minority. Just get used to having assets all over the galaxy.

This has it's plus points too, often I'll get blown up, or urgently need a hauler, and there's one a jump or two away that I dumped two years ago.

Shuttle. Or pod, but shuttles are faster, and are much safer to fly on AFK autopilot. But if its just one jump, then it's not ardorous to manually fly to the station in the pod, enter the ship, and fly back on autopilot.

It bothers me to have a cluttered Assets window. Not a lot. I some times go years between cleanups, but it does feel good to consolidate all my crap in no more than 6-8 stations, or at the most 10. Mind you, a lot of that is AFK flying, and it does help to have a Freighter.

I normally just use courier contracts to move everything so it's not too cluttered, it's cheap and effortless.

Shocked
If I logged in and saw less than, say thirty stations? in my Assets list I would be panicing...
The patch which changed the slider to be proportional to the ratio of visible to invisible window contents made things rather tricky as it's quite difficult to get the mouse on in some of mine.
Then again I do move around the cluster quite a bit so I have "bases" all over the place for different purposes.

Shuttles, sold (probably at a loss) where the new ship is. Those can be quite cheap, 20K to 50K depending on the region.

Or an Industrial ship, most of the "general hauling" ones have more than enough cargo space to fit a repackaged barge.

If you're a miner, you really should look into industrial ships, those need "Racial" Frigate to 3 and "Racial" Industrial to 1 at the minimum to be flown, and they offer huge benefits to a mining character.

Also if you are miner you really really want to get gallente industrials, for the big mineral and orebays.

I'm pretty sure the very first tutorial mission involves you undocking in a pod to pick up a noobship somewhere in space...
