Offline towers should decay slowly over time

As the topic says offline towers should decay over time based on the size of the tower. I think a small should decay in a about a week, a medium in two, and a large in 4 weeks.

Right now people are staking out moons in high sec by just anchoring a large tower, not onlining it and letting it sit. While I think this is a valid tactic, and these towers can be removed, removing a large tower in high sec is not an easy task even with several t3 BCs.

Mainly though the corp that dropped the tower gets to deny others access to it for no effort on their own part. If the tower had to be maintained (i.e kept online) to achieve this then the anchoring corp would have to put forth effort to maintain their blockade.

tl;dr;

Blockading a moon in high sec shouldn't be free. Un-maintained towers should decay.

Just shoot them.

Hell, I have an alt who can fly an Oracle. Give me fifty mil plus the cost of the wardec and I'll do it for you.

Hire someone to do it for you.

maybe make it 1 month, 2 months, and 4 months?

I don't see this really as much of a problem anyway, except maybe when the cost of the wardec itself is prohibitively expensive due to the size of the defending alliance.

Nor should it be. Getting that spot also shouldn't be as easy as waiting until after downtime on a certain day and then ninja-anchoring your own tower in the now magically empty spot before someone else does.

It's not. Towers cost money to buy. Money that's making no return on an offline tower. Getting your tower destroyed loses that money; defending it from attack, online or not, costs money. If the corp/alliance is too small to defend it, then you're going to eventually kill it and take the moon for yourself. If they are big enough to defend it and can drive you off, then it was never your option to have that moon, offline tower, online tower, or otherwise.

The only case in which I think towers should be removed 'naturally' through some sort of decay (or be open to destruction from some sort of hacking/other non combat mechanic) is that in which it is owned by a defunct corporation.

Hacking should be allowed on offline Towers. Hack the tower and its yours in 48 hours.

Its pretty damn close to free. Especially considering that the wardec costs could be many many times the value of the tower.

I support a method to "ascertain" offline towers... but it should be balanced:

a.) Don't call it hacking, as that term is used elsewhere! I'll use annexing instead.

b.) Annexing a tower should be a slow process like ice mining (30 minutes - 10% per level of prereq skill). Upon success completion, one of two thins happens:
-- if there is stront in the bay, the tower enters RF mod for a time dependent on the amount of stront in the stront bay. Towers exit the RF as if they were shot into RF, and cannot be restronted until the shield recharges to 50% HP.
-- if there is no stront, the tower becomes unanchored.

c.) Annexing a tower is a hostile action that alerts the owners the tower is getting annexed. Annexing a tower in highsec gets you concorded unless you are at war with the owning corp. In lowsec, it gives you a suspect timer.

Now everyone has fair warning this is happening, and lets you steal towers as much as you like!

No, no decay, any tower that is offline should be able to be hacked and stolen the time it immediately goes offline.
