Allow SOV holders to set (short) MOTD in local

The idea is that you allow SOV owners in nullsec to set a short MOTD message that will pop up in local.

This helps to give null sov space a more personalized character, it also allows you to share rules with strangers (this is more functional for NRDS space than other space , although it also allows for fun scamming!)

Again, the message should be short (for spamming reasons) and you can also program it so it only shows up once evey login or when the MOTD is changed (example, you login, you jump into system A, you get its MOTD, then when you jump to B you get that motd, but when you jump back to system A you wont see its MOTD again unless it was somehow changed by the SOV owner in the meantime.

There is this neat system called "channels" that are player created. You can simply make it public knowledge that these channels exist and then you can have everyone in your happy-go-peaceful coalition join this channel.

This is kind of interesting....

+1 for a unique idea.

Imagine this.

Quote:
Extremely valuable gas clouds have been discovered in the Pegasus constellation which have created a gold rush. ORE was quick to claim 'ownership' as the constellation borders its sovereign space, but the Serpentis and the Syndicate, as well as multiple entrepeneurs from the Gallente Federation, have all claimed their own piece of the pie. Inevitably collisions have occurred and the constellation has become a sort of 'warzone' between various groups of greedy claimants.

In every system.

Everywhere in EVE.

Please don't.

+1 OP. Even better if you could alter the message based on standings towards the pilot.

Lol

MOTD, not popup.

You say that like it wouldn't work the same way. Just that, spammed in every channel imaginable..

spammed in local channel, once upon entering. A channel that is already only used for spamming and smacktalk. If the popup about gas clouds had shown up in local rather than as a dialogue box in the middle of the screen, no one today would remember it at all.

This is a great idea, but should definitely come with standings specific messages. And for the Danika, a channel MOTD doesn't appear in every channel lol. Learn 2 EVE :P

No, it just pops up repeatedly in every local channel (because all local channels are a separate channel) upon the completion of every jump, for as long as you are in that sov holder's space. And what channel is it that damned near every player in EVE has tacked to one side or the other of their screen the whole time they are in space? Local.

You've never jumped through that system in a fleet full of Goonswarm members, have you.

It gets pasted into every channel imaginable. Over and over again. Then read out on comms. These MOTDs would be worse, since the spam would be automated.

Who'd filter them anyway, or would jumping into system to be greeted by ascii goatse be pretty much the norm?

Local MoTD would be bad.

The MoTD is shown every time you enter a channel. That means every time you hit a gate entering a system, you'd get hit with it.

The MoTD also is displayed every time it is changed. Now you have someone for lulz spamming the MoTD by changing it.

"Bend over and kiss your ass goodbye." then "... goodbye.." then "... goodbye..." repeat adding an ending period each time. Just to keep it spamming while you're attacking their system.

Very interesting thought process in coming up with this but no thanks.

This sounds cool. More personalization for player-owned space!

Re spam: lol, not like you're looking for anything important in that channel.

Re TTP: station names are an evidence that EVE players (at least those given access to sov buttons) are not 12yo kids.

There's plenty of ways to make this non-intrusive, especially by limiting the amount of characters you can use it for (you couldn also use it to link to other stuff), you could even make it optional

And none of those would stop the ASCII genitals in every system.

Whats wrong with ASCII genitals? .. It could be useful though.. and content providing like including links into dotlan maps for the specific region. Or links to forums or jump bridge networks you know whatever floats an alliances boat.

Limit it (80 characters or so, tops) and treat it exactly like the current "Changing channel to..." message that comes up, and I suppose it wouldn't be too bad.

Make it cost a bit (a million ISK?) and CCP could turn it into an ISK sink, as well.
