Sounds good to me! Will these events eventually graduate into real lowsec roams or life fire exercises?

May I suggest the use of spawning rookie-pirate NPCs as demonstration targets for new players to test their mettle?

CCP and GMs have a lot more power to manipulate the game world to demonstrate various aspects and situations than player instructors do. :)

Certainly! Our PVP Fleet on the 16th will be a live fire exercise with roaming. Can't reveal where we're going, but traveling into low sec or 0.0 is certainly a possibility.

And yes, part of the reason we're running these is because our devhax mean we can do things like spawn NPCs when needed.

First, let me start by completely seriously saying this is a very nice idea and I support it.

However let me point out the irony here:

Out of game, high stakes, high profile raffles for out of game prizes like trips to Iceland - we'll contract this out to an in game entity with questionable player trust even though they don't even run out of game raffles/lotteries.

In game, otherwise low risk PR wise PvP training exercises, held completely in game - we'll ignore the multitude of well trusted entities that already do this sort of thing.

Just a little backward no?

If you're seriously worried about people griefing the training sessions why not jump all the participants over to Jove space? Then jump back for the roams.

Also, +1 to a message an hour beforehand. If I were you, I'd send out mails to everyone (possibly e-mails as well), at least one message and spamming the help channels. The more exposure you get, the better.

Why not help groups like eve uni and agony do this they have been doing a long time anyway and probably know the mechanics better than most devs they are also practiced at dealing with large classes?

Part of what we are looking to do is to invite guests from the likes of EVE Uni, Agony, RvB and others to come along and be guest lecturers and instructors. Down the line we would like to see this seminar program incorporated into a completely player driven venture. That is the ideal goal.

It should be pointed out that Goonwaffe holds these for itself like every other week or, and has been doing this for years as well.

I used to run the Logistics class, like how fly a scimitar.

....and yes, yes the tutorials SUCK... and i don't mean just suck in a normal "they are bad" way, they suck in a way that causes time-space distortions in the area around them.

It was definitely inspired by stuff people like you guys do! In fact, there's a heavy possibility we'll be in touch in the near future.

Time to put an alt into Agony to get a scorpion, I guess

On a more serious note, this is a really cool initiative, I hope you guys will keep it going for the long term. I know when I started eve I felt completely lost, would have been awesome for something like this to exist. I hope you guys record this in some way and integrate it into say, the end of the tutorial where many people are left with the feeling of "ok, what now??"

For this to work you have to inform those "new players" such thing will take place, don't think many of them read devblogs.

We will be doing this by advertising them in-game via rookie corporations and the Rookie Help Chat.

not sure if rookies use the captains quarters or not... but you could advertise the training sessions on the tv... you know show a schedule and stuff.

Nine years, guys. Nine years. Guest classes, open to all. Recordings for classes if you missed them, video walkthroughs, and a well-documented wiki.

E-UNI has been doing this for nine years, and staying out of any political BS so that everyone can benefit from its teaching.

Nice to see CCP finally recognising all the work everyone has put into all that, like the 6 years I spent running it as a second full-time job... oh, wait.

CCP, I am dissapoint.

glepp - IMHO, there's little chance of them putting Agony out of business. At least though attempts to teach...

Well, since they made of point of saying that organizations like yours directly inspired the effort, they hope to contact and include you soon, and want to be able to support efforts like this with their Dev tools in ways a player driven only organization can not... I'd say you owe them an apology for your crap attitude.

This is actually somewhat brilliant.

It's not recreating what players are already doing... it's using CCP's abilities to enhance and make the concept much more accessible to new players... and leverage your Dev tools to make the training much more effective (including time efficient) than it could be otherwise.

The sooner you can coordinate your efforts with worthy player organizations the better, and really, they should view this opportunity as a god send.

This is a fantastic idea, EVE has needed this for a long long time (no offense intended to players like Kelduum who've been filling in for EVE's terrible NPE for many years). I look forwards to seeing how this develops and hopefully incorporates veteran players.

On a somewhat related note, on those occasions where I've just created a new account I enjoy hanging out in Rookie Help and providing advice and answering questions from the newbies there, but of course after 30 days I can no longer get access to the channel. Whilst I like helping rookies, I'm not willing to continuously roll trial accounts just for the privilege of doing so (plus I assume that doing so creates unnecessary clutter on the database) but I'm also not willing to jump through the hoops or take on the full responsibilities of becoming an ISD. Is there any way to create a middle ground where veteran players can gain access to Rookie Help to provide help to rookies, without the powers or teal text of the ISD volunteers? I know there are at least a few other players who would like to be able to help out when they have free time but don't want the more formal commitment of becoming an ISD to do so.

Well done, finally some cool initiative. Please ensure that you make these sessions as professional as possible. Do not allow trolling at all and record the sessions for sharing on youtube and eve main site. This is going to be fantastic. You should include views of group activities, from mining, explorations, pvp, FW, PI, etc...

Ideally once you have these done, you could also get the learning agents to point the player at the videos and live sessions.

Best would be if you record the sessions internally getting some CCP Devs to play the noobs, this way it's going to go smooth.

And btw I think that if you can package the lessons to look like a product that users can download or access through the account management as 'special' knowledge, bonus item, then it could even get more appreciated.

I wish you good luck!
