Ok.

1 First I got a Client update unsuccessful exception dump. I tried to post it here but got a 6000 char limit warning.

2 I tried to make multiple posts, but then got told HTML not accepted. Because the exception data looks too much like HTML. Why are we given exception data we can't post here?

3 I went back to the exception dump and clicked the button to start eve anyway. The client started old style gave me an incompatible protocol warning and started downloading a patch. \o/ I thought.

4 I get a some errors occurred message try opening the repair.exe file in eve folder.

5. I open repair.exe. It does a download and nothing happens. Download window closed and then silence.

6. I open repair.exe again. This time I get a different download window with a hash check and x/7 counter. It hangs on 3/7, restarts itself, and completes with no warnings. \o/.....

7 I open the launcher and it hangs in the exact same spot with Client Update Unsuccessful.

I'd be happy to post more detailed information but the forum won't let me.

Here is my Dxdiag.txt

You might want to remove the 6000 char limit from the tech support forum? Do you really need the whole thing?

I'm having the same problem. I tried deleting the temp folders the patch was downloading to and that didn't help.

*This may or may not work for you*

I've had this issue on and off for weeks now. Either it randomly seems to solve itself or I end up re downloading the entire game. This time around I messed around in settings and found an updater that launched and actually fully downloaded the patch without freezing. To me it seems like blind luck and I really have no idea why this works and what's causing the standard method of patching to not work.

Here's where you find it

C: > program files > CCP > EVE > Launcher > Cache > Updater

launch the updater application and it will do its thing. For me I havent been able to use my launcher and kept giving me an error saying : "this program is not compatible with your version of windows...yada yada yada....". After launching the updater, my launcher popped up which was really surprising since it didn't work before.

Anyways, hope this helps
