every patch is the same.
CCP: guys, we're making the game better!
people: **** you ccp, we hate you for making the game better and there's no ~content~ even though you're clearly changing lots of things and changing the meta.

Yay, this account hasn't had its signature banned. or its account, if you're reading this.

Tom Gerard, Former Forum Troll; I was one of the loudest, most abrasive, and abusive commentators throughout the whole "monocle gate" incident. I am now a very happy capsuleer who feels compelled to recognize the changes that have been made to New Eden.

Why am I thanking CCP?

-- This is yet another FREE expansion to a game I love.

-- This expansion is about SHIPS IN SPACE! =)

-- This expansion has ZERO "pay to win" flavoring to it.

-- This expansion adds CONTENT to the game! =)

-- This expansion clearly demonstrates the developers have a passion for the game.

I'd like to say it:

CCP you made massive changes since the release of Incarna, and made BIG PROMISES, and for several expansions now have delivered and exceeded my expectations. If I could complain about anything it would be that I want "MORE" of the good stuff you've been releasing.

Wishlist:

PC Support for Dust514, and Valkyrie Big smile

A DevBlog about the EVEmobile mentioned at fanfest, it may not be audible but their is a ROAR of excitement coming from the people I play with who are VERY excited and would love a peek at what is in development for our mobile devices.

why is it when Tom isn't trolling I still feel like I'm being had reading his post?

Pirate

On a serious note, I agree totally. I know others who are all like "this isn't an expansion". Well, I just think their expectations are too high or they mistake their own boredom for bad EVE expansions. I'm all ready putting thought into how I'm going to use some of the things Rubicon will have.

Wars over hisec PI?

Am I in the Twilight Zone?

I've got the skills for PI and the income even with it mostly passive is so lackluster I stopped bothering. I've got the skills and the friends to take down pocos/poses or war over it. I'd still not bother. Who the hell cares?

Speak for yourself buddy. Looks like a great many of us call bull. I've loved every expansion pre-Odyssey. Odyssey was a steaming pile of ****, and this looks like it's going to be the same. Fact is CCP are now wasting our money and most of the development time on Dust, WoD, or Valkyrie.

Link for the lazy

It has no real Eve integration, but then again neither does Dust.

Change is not content. Its change. Its like saying changing ships from grey to black is an expansion. Making the game better is opinion. In my and many others opinion the game has gotten progressively worse since around incarna. We used to have fun and now we don't. We didn't change, the game did.

Most of us stick around because weve dedicated time and cash building resources and characters not because we're pleased.
And nothing META is changing. Local chat will still prevent anyone that chooses not to die from dying. Ive been in plenty of fights and wars and I haven't died in 3 years or so. I did appreciate wh pvp but the logistics of wormholes make it a pita playing with one character and hence I likely wont be dying for another 3 years if ever again.

I think there a big misconception for the people that think CCP isn't adding content. What they are doing in the last couple of patches is adding things that greatly increases the players' ability to add content themselves, which what makes EVE, in my humble opinion (not really I am really smug, but say humble to pretend I am a nice guy), a very unique game.

-For instance a small change like tower sma dropping a wreck when it is destroyed seems like a very quick fix. But that will change the whole dynamic of wormhole evictions and will make them much more viable. Now the fat wormhole pinatas are worth the 2 days time they need to be destroyed.

-The ****** modules some of you are talking about like the local cyno jammer will make small gangs and fleets much viable adding a whole lot of content for small to medium corps.

- The moon siphoning module will make small gangs actually hurt almighty big alliances now, necessitating the formation of local resistance forces so you are efficient at protecting your moon resources.

And many more examples

In EVE content isn't jammed down your throat, fu** being a shitt* panda, in EVE they give you the tools and you create the content.

No they aren't giving you the ability to add content either. They've tightened highsec security to the point where killing someone is somewhere between impossible, a waste of isk, a day long campfest or completely consensual.

Theyre changing numbers around on ships and labeling it content. Theyre creating a method for taxing hisec PI that isn't worth doing let alone taxing or fighting a war over. Theyre adding some warp changes that still become nullified by local chat.

Siphoning moongoo? We gonna bleed goonswarm down are we? LOL.

A big pile of fail.

Comparing wow to eve,

In eve you change a single ship and the whole game changes and it provides player driven content for months on its own with that simple change, nvm the other changes..

In wow you add 5+ dungeons and a bunch of raids in 1 month and people are still bored and ask for more content..

quality > quantity..

Just because you won't use the content provided doesn't make it less of a content.. or something..

Use EVE's content lol. A ship change creates content for months on end, lol.

No quality and for damn sure no quantity. lol

EVE players are a bunch of suckers. The devs give you a very bland sandbox, hinder it to keep what pacifist players it can hold on to, then sell you a sub. Then they state youre bored because YOU don't generate the content.

O and the devs cheat for certain players.

Suckers the lot of us.

At least Blizzard employees earn their subscription fees/success by creating new content and they don't cheat on behalf of certain individuals. Can't say the same here.

It's sad that the most exiting thing coming in this 'patch' is going to be the warp speed acceleration changes.

Not at all. It's just that warp acceleration is so incredibly broad-reaching in its implications. It's going to change combat in this game probably more than anyone can predict.
If that's not content, I don't know what is.

I'm not arguing that the changes they are making wont have an impact, I am just saying that they aren't making many changes. Subtle distinction to make but if you strain yourself you might manage it.

A great many of the changes that are being made are probably single SQL statements.

The balancing changes certainly are. CCP Should be making expansions of the same scale and development effort as their old expansions with the savy they are using now for small changes that make large impacts. Then we would have game changing expansions and everyone would be happy. Instead they are wasting massive amounts of development effort on stuff that we will either never use or care about.

Eve is literally dragging the weight of one dying FPS, two undeveloped games, and a mobile app that is more development time than it's worth. Those are literally some of the stupidest development decisions I have ever heard of a games company making.

I love the stuff in the upcoming patch. <3

I hate the TOS change, lack of transparency, and poor business choices made by CCP.

What, it can't be both? Oops

You do realize the hardest part of an expansion is not writing the code or making the new artwork or sounds.

It's in predicting and testing the impact of the changes.
It's probably made even more difficult, not easier, by the fact that CCP reaches out to the community for feedback on specific proposals. They have the extra work of looking through player feedback (of which there will be hundreds of pages for any proposed expansion) and determining what has merit and what doesn't.

Enjoying the rain today? ;)
