Why do half the solo kills not count as solo kills?

Can CCP fix this issue?

Simple example, out of many examples, but this is what just happened:

Killed a 32 mio isk comet in a 8 mio isk Tristan, doing some serious multitasking, from getting to max neut range, but on the way there, taking some heavy beatings. Once there, making sure I stay there and not loosing neuts. When my drones finally killed the comet, I was 3% structure. Killmail report. Some random dude, was on a kill with 30% damage.....

Now, I tried to fight that guy 20 minutes before, but he had then left system (to get repairs I suppose), and came back to the initial system 20 minutes later, to fight again, this is when I engaged.

This happens, again, again and again when doing solo fights. You often fail with using an inferior ship type (when the superior ship type is in position), but when you do make it, when your theories do work out in practice, it does not count as a solo kill.

Yet, when you are in a fleet, doing your usual gate camp, you do top damage on one side of the gate, the guy jumps and on the otherside is killed, nobody on the other side of the gate is on killmail report.

Is CCP going to fix this? I love being in fleets, but like to do some solo roams too, trying my luck against good pilots flying superior ships, and when you are sometimes lucky to get that kill, it does not count it as a solo kill.

Will this be fixed or just stay this way the whole time?

Worse. I also do not see a reason, why people that got their ass kicked, have credit for getting a kill, and it being counted as a kill. Unless it is during the same engagement, together, at the same time. But not when the enemy ship went for repairs in another system and coming back to fight from scratch.

did the guy have a session change in between getting in the fight with random 30% dude and you? If not, it could have been due to having just gotten out of that fight before you showed up.

also, was it possibly a rat ... if they spawn in and shoot, well ..

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

The person with 30% damage participation probably engaged him short before you did and was still in the flag countdown or something. But true that this may be annoying, especially if he left system BEFORE you engaged the other.

For your last question: Yes it is normal that someone who participates in a kill gets his name in the kill report even if he died (and often shown has a capsule in that case). Without him the kill may not have occured. I know it is not what happened here and that you want to show that you did a solo kill but the mechanic exist for other cases when participation to a kill has some importance to other pilots.
