Still a newbie, looking to get into FW

I've been around for a couple of months, but haven't really done much. I tried low-sec/null-sec exploration, but after a month of site scanning, to no avail, I'm looking to do something a bit more engaging.

I'm now looking to get into FW and was wondering how I'd go about it. I read EVElopedia, but the information is stated to be outdated, and was wondering if the community had any advice on how to get into it.

Are there any FW corporations that take in green pilots, and if so, where can I find them?

Heres the best guide to FW mechanics: http://www.gamerchick.net/2013/01/the-beginners-guide-to-faction-war.html

Once you sign up, you get a new 'Militia Chat' window. There will be regular recruiting ads posted there, or just ask yourself who's looking for new blood.

Check they are active in your TZ. If it's Minmatar your looking to sign up with, 'Photon Scorpions' are very active atm.

Alright, I'll hop into a militia once I'm done fitting some frigates. Can anyone else point me in a direction for corporations among each of the factions before I do so? Any additional advice from active FW participants that I should know? I'm going to contact Zappity as you've said Eli, but anything else?

And thanks everyone so far for the assistance.

Hehe, here I am. Not strictly faction warfare but rather lowsec. I think it is the easiest place to get into PvP. And PvP is definitely the best part of the game.

I suggest faction warfare only because people tend to be poor and that is not a fit state for PvP. Personally, I only lasted 24 hours in faction warfare. I resigned after finding that I cared about the little timer and this detracted from finding fights. And I don't need the isk so why subtract half the possible targets?

OP, if you want to make your way down to the Minmatar/Amarr FW zone I can help you get started with a few ships. What race do you fly? But you should look for a player run faction warfare corp in your timezone ASAP. Look at Reaperlings.

Edit: and I'm not an 'it'.

FYI, Reaperlings/Rifterlings are no longer in Faction Warfare. We switched over to piracy, though still inhabit the Minmatar/Amarr FW region

Finally got out to trying FW after getting some ISK to fit a few Rifters, but so far no luck. Managed to run one site last night, but got destroyed in the following one before doing anything to my opponent, mostly out of panic. Tried to get out to Minmatar space a couple minutes ago to get destroyed by a gate camp before I could so much as align, bah... I'll probably give it another shot tomorrow, hopefully I'll actually manage to accomplish something. Ugh

Oh yes, forgot to mention, the assistance was much appreciated, helped me understand the "button" and FW mechanics, thanks everyone.

Got three more Rifters destroyed in combat, interesting, but still can't put a dent in anything I come up against without being destroyed before my guns rattle off a few cycles. Eh, maybe one more go at it?

Find a corp that knows FW. Actually KNOWS the systems. Where the popular gate camps / high activity systems are. Can show you how to Dscan, properly fit, and all that good stuff. Check the Minmatar KB and see who the most active corps are.

You will die very often if you go solo. Check the chart in this post:

Try something like this and go after turret boats:

Well done for taking the Republics Shilling! Be prepared to lose a lot more ships before you start winning. But now the WZ is more balanced, you can start offensive plexing and make around 10mill per nov.

Checked out your KB, and the best advise I can offer is to switch to a Shield tanked Slasher. Your plated Rifter is a close range brawler with zero range control. You wouldnt have broken the tank of the Breacher, but in a slasher you would have caught that Slicer and killed his MWD before he pulled range. If you can squeeze a Neut into the utility high, you've got a real flexible killing machine. And if something like a Merl, Torm or Cursus is out brawling you, you have the speed to disengage before you pop.

The neut really is a win button in the Minni/Amarr WZ with so many laser boats around.

But the main point here to take on board, is that each of those losses is a lesson learned:

1. Breacher has an insane active tank, 10km killing range and should be avoided in an AC Rifter.
2. Slicers are deadly if they can pull out to range, but catch them quick as they warp in on you and they melt like butter!
3. Avoid that gate in Hagilur. ( Hint: and Never use the Ossoger gate in Amamake EVER)

You learn just as much from the losses as you do from the wins.

Good hunting!

Bought a Slasher and skilled up to use it with some sort of proficiency. I finally took it out today for the first time, and got ganked at a novice acceleration gate by two Kestrels. I baited one to jump through, but stopped my warp before going through myself, and fought the remaining one. We burned through each others tanks, but I ran out of my 7 cap 50s rather quickly. He must've burned through his own capacitor though, as his web dropped and I quickly began orbiting him at a speed that managed to far decrease the damage of his missiles enough for me to wreck his armor and structure before his friend could get out of the site and bounce back to the acceleration gate.

My ship on fire, I docked up, shaking a bit, but triumphant. Well, that was awesome, I rather like this ship, and would like to thank those that recommended it. It's nice to have a kill listed under my name rather than a loss for once. Can't wait to get back out there tomorrow, and, again, I'd like to thank all those that helped, it is much appreciated.

Awesome! Sonds like you've got the bug bad.

Always GF in local after the fight and discuss it with anyone who is willing to. You learn loads and make friends/contacts.

Make some notes in hte ingame notepad after each fight. Link in the kill or loss and keep a log of what went well and what you could have changed.

And dont pay any attention to your kill ratio or efficiency. Soloist KB's never look much good compared to gangs, so just enjoy the fights. The best fights are definitely those where win or lose, the winner is on fire!

Well I think it's time to throw in the FW towel. I enjoy the PvP, but it's far too frustrating for me. I would once again like to thank everyone that helped me, but I just can't do it, and think it's better that I stay out of low-sec.
