CCP wanted to give Somer a pair of Gold Magnates to give out and we shot that down. Today we found out all Somer staff (maybe SCT, BIG and EOH staff too?) got Isukone Scorps for their troubles.

I think we need to talk about what is and isn't acceptable when it comes to CCP supporting our content creation. We as a community (us and CCP) should try to find that sweet spot between promoting the content creating players and favoritism.

Marlona Sky's 'Flight of A-Thousand-Rifters' had prizes that were CCP seeds. We were cool with that. We aren't cool with re-seeded Gold Magnates, or players being given 10-bil-ships for their hard work. So what gifts are cool?

E-Uni and RvB have had adverts posted for free. How do you feel about free ads for EOH or EVE-BET? If you feel differently about the two, why? Maybe because the former groups are about gameplay and teaching EVE. The latter groups exist to make ISK. Which groups are more deserving of free things? Should groups that exists to make ISK get freebies above and beyond what the teachers of EVE get?

Somer do make content. I've 'Blinked' in the past, I'm sure many of you have too. That was content. I have also read James 315's blog. That was also content. Should James get a free ship? I don't think he should.

It's one thing to give free adverts to well run newbie friendly corps, another to basically give ISK to a gambling website.

What do you think? Where do we draw the line between supporting content creators and favoritism?

Send any badposting-hate-mail to Sol Kal'orr. I promise to read it when I resub.

How about you keep gifts for promoting the game via 3rd party sites out of my sandbox? If you have to, add a few months onto their subs, or give them some stupid gift cards. Seeding hundreds of billions worth of "rewards" in a sandbox rapidly stops making it a sandbox.

I'm unsure why there is such an issue, the gold magnate is a history thing so understand that, but these little emo sessions over people being supported for providing content and stuff for us the players that aren't CCP made I think is pathetic.

I understand they are worth a lot of ingame isk but really all this upset is over nothing. Its not t20 its not a scandal or anything. Its marketing and support many other games do (eg WoW).

It's an issue because goons were told to come to the forums and make a lot of noise about it.

Remove all the goons and goon alts, everyone defending Blink, and everyone attacking goons and goon alts and you're left with about 9 posts, most of them exactly like yours asking why anyone cares or how this counts as news.

Everyone seems to have forgotten that the goons stated goal in eve is to ruin the game for everyone else.

People like blink. CCP likes blink. Goons want to try and ruin blink.

Look, I'm not a Goon. I went to SA once and left confused. I'm just an EVE-player who likes the idea of CCP supporting us for making content but doesn't want us getting hand-outs. I think we can find a balance between CCP supporting our content, without favoring one group over another. And, well, I feel the recent treatment of Somer smacks of favoritism. We can find a better way to promote content creators. I feel free ships isn't that way.

Also, why would Goons want to ruin Blink? That confuses me.

Blink can't be ruined like this. In fact, this is great marketing for him.

I'm not interested in ruining Somer. I like Somer. I just think we need to think about what is and isn't acceptable when it comes to CCP promoting our content creation.

CCP already has a program of rewording players!!

Its called "Media account" - and its basiclly playing for free.

VV got it, CSM members got it, and perhaps some more i don't know of.

...so that wasn't enough reward? they had to give them ships???

Troll for hire. Cheap prices.
