Increase the saved fittings limit (unlimited fittings)

I personally find the saved fittings limit to be really annoying. Its partly because it IS annoying, because when I move fittings into and out of pyfa I have to go through my fits and delete many of them manually.

Its also partly annoying because I know that a 200 fittings limit in this day and age is just criminal.

I don't know how you store those fittings, but I imagine its just a list of IDs. Each fitting probably takes -much- less than a kilobyte of space. If that's true you're allowing us 200 kilobytes worth of space for fittings.

I don't know if the fittings are saved on the client or the server, but either way, modern machines can definitely handle a lot more than 200k worth of fittings.

I'm sure that the programmers at CCP all know this. I hope I don't sound like a jerk for breaking it down like this, I just don't know if whoever looks at this does programming, or has an intuitive understanding of the value of data storage. Even if you're storing this data on the server, and have 1 million players, 200k * 1 million is only 200 gigs, or about $20 worth of commodity hard disk space.

I'm guessing this was a decision made early on in the game's history when 200 gigs seemed like a lot of space, or when encrypting/decrypting 200k seemed like an expensive operation.

Nowadays, this just seems clearly wrong. I know its not something that anyone would consider high priority, but it is something that bugs me, and if it bugs me it probably bugs other people as well. I imagine it will be really easy to fix this, so it should be low priority, but also really low effort.

Thank you for your time.

Do you really continuously use 200 fittings at the same time?

Its not that I use them at the same time.

Its that I don't think I should have to delete them, ever...

Its 2013, data storage technology is mindbogglyingly advanced. There is no reason to have an arbitrary limit, ANY arbitrary limit, on something like saved fittings.

I should be allowed to have far more fittings than I'd ever, EVER use. I should be able to have 100,000 - I wouldn't use 100,000, but an arbitrary storage limit should not be the limiting factor in how many fittings I can have.

We live in a day and age where anonymous email programs give away over a dozen gigs of useable space, which should be enough to store millions of fittings.

The only reason anyone should ever have to delete fittings should be when they're tired of all the scrolling they're doing through their fittings window.

+1

I would not use 100.000 fittings ever, but having maximum of 500-700 instead of current, would be more than awesome.

Yes that would be nice i often have to delete a saved fitting to make room.Big smile
What would also really help is:
Give us the option to see the fitting of our ships no matter where they are.
We already have the option to see what is in our ship cargo hold, it would be great we could see the fitting as well. If we had the option to see those fitting it would help reduce the amount of saved fitting we would need.

Asset Inventory: The modules on all our ships are part of our assets I think it would be great if we could see them .

Isn't the limit at 100 fittings for personal use and 250 for corporation fittings?

Anyhow, I used to be fine with 100 fittings back when I only flew Caldari ships.
But when I added Gallente ships to the mix it got tight very quickly and now that I added the Amarr line of ships I can no longer keep them all.
It must be even more difficult for all the pilots who choose to fly all of the ships of EVE.

As I did three or four times now I agree.

And as far as I know the "fittings" are kept in a tiny xml file which takes about two minutes to load.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!

How did you get 200 fits saved? It only lets me do 100...

FYI, you can export/import fittings that are not currently "active" in the fitting browser.

Personally I'd like to see that interface get faster. Takes several seconds before the client is responsive when I open that UI.

Having 256/512 each of personal / corporate would be nice too.

Just make it 500 for personal use, and 1000 for corporation fittings, It's fast and easy solution to the problem.

yes 100 is not enough, I can fly pretty much all ships of all races and thats well over a 100 ships, and of each ship you have different fittings, so yes 500 should be the minimal.....

You can use notepad to save fits.
Make notes and name them by ships, folders by ship types and then drag ship fits in.

I don't really do it but if fitting cap is a problem...

I think fitting UI needs to be overhauled because the code is bad for loading times and it probably causes some server side lag as well.

There's "same" thread here:

More than 100 fittings.
