Smart people learn from observing the mistakes of others - and don't repeat them...

Just an informational message that I hope CCP devs listen to:
The Devs at Diablo III have decided that the auction houses (fake gold and Real Money) are ruining the core game and have slated both versions of the auction houses to be shut off in about 6 months. Link.

Now, you have to realize that Blizzard gets 15% of all real money transactions - which you would think is a powerful incentive to keep those "features" intact. But the Dev team essentially stated that the auction houses have turned into a Pay2Win mechanism that is ruining the game, so much so that are willing to give up that 15% hard cash flow in lieu of a more player driven economy. This is the way it has been traditionally done. Like in Diablo II when the players stopped using gold and started using Stones of Jordan as currency - the players changed the in-game currency !!!

As CCP re-engineers the game with various expansions, I hope they learn from the lesson that Blizzard has learned the hard way.

YEAH CCP! This Incarna expansion is really pissing everyone off!

And how it is relevant to anything in current Eve?

Yes.

Not in a massively-online way or in a persistent-world way... but an internet connection is required, you have to log in through your battle.net account, and then you have the option of playing solo, playing multi-player with a couple of friends, or finding 1-3 random strangers to play with. And, obviously, the gold and cash auction houses were shared online features.

It is also linked to Blizzard's other games (Starcraft and WoW) for chat functionality.

The joys of having a teenager in the house with a short game attention span... all that research to set up an account that he uses for a whole month.

Considering you could not play it unless you were connected to the Innerwebs....

PLEX = approved method for CCP to RMT on the back of players who have lots of time (pretty cool when you think about it)

P2W not yet in EVE but it's been threatening to appear for a while

Pay to create content. This is the, 'vanity is ok' argument. As far as I am concerned, vanity is content. Content should be created by players in the sandbox. If someone has time and the necessary effort then players should be able to, for example, create monocles that give bonuses then sell them for isk.

Hopefully the OP's evidence may help CCP down the path of fixing their game.

Yeah nice spin they put on that.

The reality is that they are a corporation looking to sell a product. (The new expansion)

Their big bucks lawyers and consultants told them if they want to make money, they lose the auction houses. It has nothing whatsoever to do with players. It has everything to do with keeping a board of directors and a bunch of people holding voting stock placated.

Well blizzard took a looooooooong time to learn their lesson, where so far it takes CCP about 24-72 hrs to oisten to their community which is why I have faith in them. I sometimes theorize that events such as the gold magnate crap are CCP deliberately trolling us.

Remember, EVE is a game about griefing, trolling, and most importantly, the harvesting of tears. When CCP does outlandish things like P2W or gold magnate debacle what they get in return is loads and loads of whining, qqing, and crying, which hypocritical whiners actually enjoy making fun of in-game.

So is CCP really going to make EVE p2w? Or is this them trolling and laughing at us while drinking gallons and gallons of our tears. In a way, a big part of EVE is griefing/scamming/trolling, so making P2W or imbalances in the game is basically just griefing us all: an ultimate tear-extraction master-plan, if you will.

Why would removing the AH be necessary for the new expansion? Surely this would give them another opportunity to milk customers wallets as they have to buy new sets of legendary/unique items so they can get through the expansion in two hours and $300?
