I see all four races well represented. The Fenrir is the fastest, the Charon holds the most, the Oblisk and Providence fall in the middle. Some will argue that the Providence is the best looking but thats up for debate.....

People buy a freighter because they need to move lot of stuff, so i will go for the Charon because space is all.
also more HP will not save u if a gang decide to suicide on u...

As stated - all 4 are used.

When you can fly that much stuff around, it's more how valuable is what you are hauling vs a little more space for packing more stuff into the hold.

If you exceed a certain value point, you can make yourself a bigger target for ganking - it isn't that cheap to gank a freighter and they can be worth a great deal to knock down.

For what it's worth, the Obelisk has the best tank. The Providence is middle-of-the-road: its sub-warp speed and agility are second to the Fenrir, its tank is second to the Obelisk's, but it's got the second-smallest hold, beating out only the Fenrir in that category.

The freighter I see the least is the Fenrir

Speed: Fenrir > Providence > Obelisk > Charon
Capacity: Charon > Obelisk > Providence > Fenrir

I personally chose a Charon (I own 6 of them) because for me every last m3 matters, and I don't AFK haul (except sometimes when empty). All my freighter pilots can pilot all the freighters, as it is so trivial to train them all to IV.

The Providence is the one I see least, by quite a long way. I think I see more or less equal numbers of the others.

I wonder how much appearance counts? The Providence looks more like a cruise liner than a freighter.

People often train up the one they have the the highest industrial skill for, for example in Minmatar space the Fenrir is quite common.

In hindsight my post should have had more psssshhhh

Charon is probably the most common, Obelisk is 2nd and Providence and Fenrir share the 3rd place.

Judging from my sales (in Jita) the weighting of the numbers is somewhat like
1 : 0.43 : 0.28 (Charon : Obelisk : Providence/Fenrir).

I assume that the actual numbers of freighters in the game are not so far apart. It's likely that the number of Charons sold is affected by kills ... if more people fly Charons more get killed and need to be replaced.

Also, it depends where you are -- I see far more racial freighters in racial space... seems the people who don't travel far outside of their empire stick to what their empire builds.

Obviously this is anecdotal evidence at best ... though it's probably a self-reinforcing situation ...

There are fewer Charon BPO/C in Metropolis, making building more time consuming (getting BPC into the area)
Since fewer Charons are built there, fewer people buy them for intra-region hauling (too expensive compared to other options)
Since fewer people buy them, the market is slower.
since the market is slower, fewer people bother to import the BPO/C.

(note it's early and I've probably mucked something up)
