Ability to Create Customs Items

I'd totally love to see the ability to create custom items in EVE.

Basically, a player would pay an ISK cost (maybe 10,000,000) to create an item from scratch, choosing from a selection of already existing icons to give the item. The player could give the item a custom name and description. The player could decide if they want to create multiple items, up to a maximum number of maybe 500.

The item would clearly state in the attributes who created the item, when it was created, where it was created, how many were created, along with an automatically generated item ID. The item icon would include one of those triangle tags, colored in red with a white filled in circle to indicate it is a "Custom Item", not faction or deadspace or anything.

These items would have multiple uses. They could be used as proof of agreements, like a James315 New Order mining pass. They could be used as roleplaying items. They could be used as items to scam with by selling an item that imitates a genuine item. They could be used as souvenirs, or a replacement for "Bookmark Post-It Notes" that are placed in hangars.

If server space is a problem, perhaps they could all have an expiration date, with the option to make a no-expiry item one at a time for a vastly increased price (100,000,000 ISK).

Thoughts?

Not that I claim to know much at all about CCP's database, but I don't know if it would take kindly to adding hundreds of thousands (or more) new types of items

Kahega: If it was treated like a ship, where it's still a single item type, but with a name, it might work okay. Not sure, but yeah, in general, that'd be the problem. Server murder.

I like the idea, I really like ideas that involve crowdsourcing new "content" for EVE. But an ISK-based system would be too problematic. I think if you want players to create new items, they need to be able to drive a certain amount of support from other players that those items should exist.

I recently made a post about Crowdsourcing Landmarks for space in EVE. I think you'd want something similar. Enough interest from players, and CCP looks at creating the item for you. They just created a bunch of joke items for the Collector's Edition, so in limited quantities, it's not out of the question. But it has to be tightly controlled and vetted for lore compliance.
