New Eden Research alliance kicks all members

I would have posted this in the Alliance section, but seeing as how I can't now that I'm not in an alliance anymore....

Anyone know why the New Eden Research. alliance kicked all its members out today? There was no forewarning. We were dec'ed at the time, but it's not the first war the alliance has been through.

Wild speculation is encouraged.

Here's a totally wild idea:

Did the CEO manage to seize everybody's assets, BPO's and ISK? I'm betting it's related to that.

What does 'haxxored' mean? Have people lost assets like BPO's etc?

Usually that means they shared their password with someone else or left the account logged in, then going away and someone else accesses their account. Or they gave their accountname/password to some random websites. Or they installed a keylogger that sent their details to bad people. You know, anything but actual hacking.

Yes, that was the first thing I did. Others have done the same, we havn't heard anything back yet.

Due to the way research alliances are set up, the vast majority of BPOs are not accessible from other corps. The alliance didn't charge very high dues, so I can't imagine there was more than a few hundred million in the alliance wallet.

Have you anything to back this up? That's real tough luck if it's true.

Just to state the obvious there is no significant isk loss as a result this. No Bpo's can be stolen, no huge alliance wallet to be got. It is an inconvenience however but nothing more.

enlighten me here....whats the point of a research alliance apart from making yourself a nice juicy target?

it's an alliance with one or more deathstar POS setup for alliance research use. I imagine that most (all?) of the corps contained therein are 1-man altcorps ...

I'm betting they're left more or less alone because they're smart enough to keep their mouths closed (i.e. not making themselves a target).

One of the bitter points of a good bittervet is the realisation that all those SP don't really do much, and that the newbie is having much more fun with what little he has. - Tippia

Problem with that is that POS's are corp specific, you can't share with the alliance. So again, advertising yourself as a 'Research Alliance' is both a bad idea (paints a bullseye) and pointless. 1 man corps owning POS's is really dumb.

You can set up a POS so that alliance members can use the labs for ME and PE research, providing that research doesn't need anything in the lab hangers. Can't share copy or invention though.

Way it works is BPOs stay in your corp hanger (in station), research is done in POS owned by another corp in the alliance.

I do feel sorry for those who have lost this service and can advise that I hear that an Alliance that will be offering this service in mid December 2013 , you would have to contact Gotchaback for either the use of labs or offering your labs to others

That is allBig smile
