Hey guys,
Been gone long while and trying to relearn this game again. My question is about the training queue; is there an phone app that lets you start training offline? I have seen apps that will monitor your progress but none that will allow modifications of queue while offline.

Only way to modify the skill queue is to log into the game and do so.

as far as i am aware, there is no way to interact with the game other than through the client. this includes the training queue, market orders, contracts PI or anything else you may want to do when logged off.

edit: one notable exception is EVEmail. you can read and write EVEmails on this here page.

I should buy an Ishtar.

I do admit that this is a very odd exclusion that would be a good idea for a future addition.

I've always wanted CCP to add the skill queue to EVE Gate, but no dice so far...

I doubt it will ever happen. CCP wants people to login and be part of the sandbox.

Dev Blog - CCP Eris Discordia - More Queue Queue

While it´s cool that you can advance your character when you are offline, we did worry that if we introduced a skill queue some players might just set a queue for a year and become less active in EVE. That´s not what a massively multiplayer ONLINE game is about. EVE is a social game and we want you exposed to other players so you can start making legends out of you or corporation and strive for domination. A long abstinence from EVE would ruin this for us.

And yet, we know people do have lives outside of EVE and you don´t really want to set your alarm to change skills, or worse lose out on skill training because you couldn´t make it home in time. And it´s always the shorter skills that fall right between a day and anything less than that which are the hardest to fit into your schedule.

So we sought a way to make the planning of skill training easier by using a queue, but without the risk of people queuing forever and not really being active in the game.

As much as it would make my life easier, I don't think CCP should add an offline skill update feature.

I remember reading a story of a titan kill that someone engineered. The player managed to track down the pilot of the Titan - who basically didn't play the game anymore. He monitored his log in and log off activity and determined that the titan pilot was simply logging on to update his skill queue. He then located the system he was performing safe logoff in. Then he estimated when the skill he was training would finish and laid a trap.

When the Titan pilot logged in to update his skills and then closed out, he sprung the trap and destroyed the ship.

That kind of excellent kill wouldn't have been possible if an offline skill updater was available.

Also, such a feature would in-effect be buffing Titans. Since titan pilots have to basically live in their titan and can't dock anywhere - being able to offline skill update would be a huge deal for them and make Titans much, MUCH easier to use.

And if there is one thing in this game that does not need a buff - it's titans.

+ The idea of having to log into an online game to change your skillqueue is good. Don't be lazy.
- The idea of having all skills tailored to require a day + x for level 4 is a commercial trap. Nice try CCP.

Just bump the queue to 48 hours and you'd fix the most problematic issue while still maintaining the need to log in, and get guild tripped into a lowsec roam, generating content.

Yeah uh not all skills are rank 1 buddy. When you have skills ranging from Rank 1-16 and 5 levels for each skill, some skill levels are going to be of duration that's midly inconvenient to you. It's not a "commercial trap", it's an inescapable aspect of the skill system.
