Rewarding people who actually play the game...

One of the things I love about Eve is that you can still progress your character during down time, when you're not actually playing. However, I've been mulling over the skill system and I think the following change would encourage people to play more and also allow slightly faster advancement for people wishing to specialise.

Let's say I'm training the Minmatar Frigate skill. I don't know the exact numbers here, but let's say if I train this skill offline it trains at 100 skill points an hour. If I were to train this skill while actually playing the game and flying a Minmatar Frigate, would it not make sense to receive a slight bonus to the rate at which the skill is learned, say 120 sp/ph, because practical experience should count for something, right? You don't learn to drive a car just by reading the highway code, you actually have to go out and do it. This could be applied to any of the skills in the game that relate to something specific. Obviously core skills like capacitor/powergrid etc... would remain unchanged, or maybe be affected by flying any ship, but things like trade could be affected by buying/selling, manufacture by actually manufacturing etc...

This would be a nice way to lower training times for something you want to focus on and also a nice little reward for actually getting out there and flying ships/playing the game.

Here we go again.

Hopefully OP has searched and found that this idea has been proposed numerous times in the past.

If you don't know where you're going, any road will take you there.

I hope you put on your flame retardant undergarments before posting that.

This is an old proposition that seems to be "invented" every week or so. So old that CCP even apparently tossed it out in early beta, according to the grapevine.

Why? CCP doesn't care if you play the game, just if you pay for the game.

Just to be polite, I will point out the exploit.

People would put the pilot on autopilot and go to work, bed, the park, etc. Then he would be 'active' and train faster. This would lead to server overload (tens of thousands of afk pilots) and massive suicide gankings. (might be fun?)

On another level, not so polite...

Log in after DT, undock ship of interest, set orbit around station, collect SP...

Great idea.

Yep, didn't even make it out of beta.

I know that ultimately, they're in it to make money, but they put far too much effort into it for it to be all about that I'm sure.

Being that its an MMO, CCP do care that you play the game. If no one ever logged in then there would be no PVP, market ect ect and then everyone would unsub because there was no one to interactive with.

People who play the game are rewarded with fun. That is the definition of a game.

Play for SP, what silly concept. Next thing you'll want character levels and experience points.

Point first, immediately regret later.

It is a nice Idea, with a huge amount of opportunity for exploit!

Some reward would be nice for being on:

a. Extension to skill que, limited by skill type. example being: Being allowed to put a skill after Caldari Cruiser 5 (more than 24 hours), maybe Medium Hybrids, relevent to skills being used the most.

b. Cheaper / Better Insurance. The company recognises your commitment to that ship type

c. Very slow LP gain in that race.

d. Furry Dice

e. Discount clones for that race of ship flying at their stations, a massive 5% discount!

f. Regular miners get a small increase in yeild.

g. Bigger explosion when you die!

If you want to lower training times, there is an easy way for that: Go to the Character Bazaar and buy a fully trained one.

Ascully it did
I think it got removed in RMR

much better gone IMO

Actually, I think that you should lose skill points if you are logged in & don't do anything after like 30 minutes.

Example.

If you are logged in & in red territory in a cloaky ship. You are cloaked & in a safe spot. You go afk & go to the movies with girlfriend. After 30 minutes of inactivity, you should start losing skill points at the rate you are training. It is random which skill get affected.

Great so I'll leave my character orbiting a can at a safespot and go to work.

Come home to Frigate V!

Seriously though, skillbot macros will appear within an hour of this proposal going live. Please just enjoy the skill system as it is.
