This may sound a bit strange to non-believers, so I have to insist that all trolls and jokesters please just keep on walking.

Are there any corps in E.v.E. that rule based on the principles of Sharia Law? I'm especially interested in joining one run by a CEO with a real-life background in such matters.

Well, the difficulty here is that EVE is a fantasy world set 10,000 years in the future.

Consider the backstory of EVE. The Amarrians are a deeply religious people, yet there is never any mention of Jesus in their society. Prophets are mentioned, but never a messiah. This has led some to the conclusion that the Amarrians are the descendant of Muslims, or perhaps some fusion of Muslim and Christian ideology, distorted over 10,000 years into an unrecognizable form.

I remember once meeting a Christian who was Minmatar. I wondered why she would choose to be Minmatar, and not Amarrian. I speculate that it's because the Amarrian religion, with it's institutionalized slavery and adulation of war, has no relationship to how she interprets Christianity.

How would a corp in EVE rule according to the principles of Sharia law?

According to the official backstory, most people in EVE think that the planet Earth is a myth. There would be no returning to Earth for the hajj to Mecca, or facing the direction of Mecca for prayer, or even any understanding of it's significance.

Activities in EVE are largely a) Mining b) Combat c) Manufacturing d)Missioning e)Trading. I don't see how any of these EVE activities as performed would be affected at all by Earthly Sharia law. There might be some missions which would violate Sharia law, but that's all I can think of.

There's other things to consider, such as game mechanics. If I as a female character I were to join a Muslim EVE corporation and was required to cover my hair, how exactly would I do that? In character appearance, EVE allows male Amarrians to cover their heads with a shawl, but that option is not available to females.

I've seen many Christian players and characters in EVE, but I have never heard of a corporation which is entirely Christian. It might be true that corporations are made of groups of friends, and everyone in the corporation might be a Christian, but I have never heard of a corporation in EVE calling itself 'A Christian corporation'.

You might want to start up a chat channel for Muslims, or some form of social discussion group of fellow Muslims that play EVE.

It would be interesting to discuss just how Islam would fit in with the future world of EVE. What would the Muslim attitude be towards the theorcratic Amarrian state? Would they be part of it, stand in opposition to it, would they be considered Heretics or Apostates?

Could the Amarrian Apocrypha, which is a mission item, be one of the few remaining copies of the Qu'ran? The Apocrypha are the books of the Jewish and Christian bible which were forbidden by the Catholic church. Could it be possible that the Amarrian theocratic council decided that the Qu'ran should also be considered a forbidden text?

What about missions which require you to retrieve a relic considered sacred to the Amarrians, but which would be considered an idol according to Islamic beliefs?

P.S. Muhammed said that one should not indulge themselves in the game of Chess, since it is an idle (and not productive) waste of time. I imagine that this would also apply to EVE as well. So it seems to me that an EVE corporation run according to Sharia law is somewhat of a contradiction.

As much as i can understand that we all enjoy to group with like-minded people (religion, politic, culture, hobbies, etc...), i must say that, as far as i know, there's indeed no mention of muslim or any other RL regilion in EVE's background, so it seems to me to be hardly explicable from a roleplay point of view.
On another level, online games and internet in general are a great way to meet and interact with people from different parts of the world, cultures etc... to help us to understand and respect each others more than if we all stay separated Smile
