So, my Rhea just died 1 day ago Cry, and I decided to write this to teach new and experienced Jump Freighter Pilots, and for them to use this as a go to. Donations greatly appreciated to go to a new Rhea Smile

I have been looking over the forums and the net and could not find a Manual for Jump Freighters; though there were a lot of forum posts about specific things having to do with Jump Freighters and how they work and interact with their cyno alts.

WHAT IS A JUMP FREIGHTER?
  • A Jump Freighter is the Tech 2, or T2 as we EVE players like to call it variant to the Racial Freighters.
  • They are a Logistics ship.

    WHAT ARE THEY USED FOR?
  • Jump Freighters main purpose is haul massive loads of cargo very quickly and very well.
  • Many alliances use them to survive in 0.0 space, they are great for a small alliance just starting out in 0.0 space.
  • Sneaking in behind enemy lines and setting up a base or a intrustion.

    WHAT MAKES JUMP FREIGHTERS SO MUCH BETTER OVER THEIR T1 VARIANTS?
    In exchange for 2/3 of the cargo space of their T1 variants, they have a Capital Jump Drive, which allows them to forgo normal stargates and jump entire systems.

    This makes them ideal for hauling expensive stuff safe and quickly.

    WHAT IS A CYNO AND A CYNO ALT?
    A "Cyno" is short for Cynosural Field which is a small controllable Wormhole that allows Capital ships to jump to.
    A "Cyno Alt" is an alt that normally has no implants and is just used to activate the Cyno by activating a Cynosural Field Generator I and having the ; usually in a cheap ship such as an Imicus.

    YOU WILL DIE - The cyno field lasts for 10 min and is warpable to every pilot in the system on their overview. You are unable to warp, move, cloak, or dock until the Cyno ends.

    CYNOSURAL FIELDS
    A Cynosural Field is a small Wormhole that allows a Capital Ship to lock-on-to and Jump to.
    They require the Module - Cynosural Field Generator I to generate one, and the skill Cynosural Field Theory to use this module.

    FUEL
    Jump Freighters require Fuel Isotopes to Jump to a Cyno.
    Each Racial Jump Freighter is configured to use a different fuel isotope.

  • Amarr: Helium-3 Consumes 2,900 per Light year (Base)

  • Caldari: Nitrogen-14 Consumes 3,300 per Light year (Base)

  • Gallente: Oxygen-16 (The Rorqual also uses this Isotope) Consumes 3,100 per Light year (Base)

  • Minmatar: Hydrogen-2 Consumes 2,700 per Light year (Base)

  • The Rhea consumes the most Isotopes, while the Nomad consumes the least.

    This can be reduced by skills - Jump Fuel Conservation which gives a 10% reduction in isotope consumption amount for jump drive operation per light year per skill level., granting a 50% reduction at Level 5. And training the skill Jump Freighter also gives a 10% reduction in fuel per skill level, granting a 50% reduction at Level 5.

    If you do not have enough Fuel Isotopes you need to make it where you need to go and you attempt to initiate a jump, you will fail and the fuel will be returned to your cargo hold.

    HOW FAR CAN THEY JUMP?
    Every Jump Freighter starts off with being able to jump 5 ly.
    The skill - Jump Drive Calibration increases your jump range by 25% per skill level, with a 125% increase of 11.25 ly at level 5.

    ARE THEY WORTH IT?
    Don't get me wrong, they are an EXPENSIVE TOY - around 6 bil each at the time of posting. The most expensive being the Rhea and the least expensive being the Ark.

    If you have the isk for it they are amazing and one of the best logistical ships out there.
    If you are a small Corporation/Alliance you may want to consider the Rorqual - Which is 2.2bil at the time of posting. They are only able to hold 70k m3 in cargo, but is a lot less of a pain if you lose it.

    HOW MUCH CAN EACH JUMP FREIGHTER CARRY?
    Anshar - 281,250 m3 base; 351,562.5 m3 at Gallente Freighter level 5
    Ark - 275,625 m3 base; 344531 m3 at Amarr Freighter level 5
    Nomad - 270,000 m3 base; 337,500 m3 at Minmatar Freighter level 5
    Rhea - 294,375 m3 base; 367,986.75 m3 at Caldari Freighter level 5

    HOW DO I AVOID GETTING BLOWN UP IN THIS EXPENSIVE SHIP?
    You should ALWAYS be near a station or gate, NEVER LIGHT A CYNO IN A SAFESPOT, BECAUSE ANYONE CAN WARP TO IT, AND THERE ARE NO SENTRY GUNS OR DOCKING MECHANISM TO SAVE YOU.


    After you undock and don't press or move, or warp to anything until the session timer is gone (30 sec) because during the session timer you are unable to be locked and are invulnerable. After the 30 sec's ends, if someone locks you or scrams/webs you can just dock up and wait till the griefers log off or move on.

    WHAT ABOUT HIGHSEC?
    Jump Freighters are able to use Stargates just like their T1 variants.

    TIPS AND TRICKS
  • Initiate Self-Destruct on your Cyno ship, 10 sec in light the Cyno and warp your Jump Freighter
  • Use a Webber alt to web your ship while in Highsec to make it faster and safer (Must be in the same corporation or you must duel each other)
  • Use this to find how far you can jump and how many jumps with other useful things to a Space Trucker T2 Lol

    Always found it hard to find consolidated info on jump freighters. The Eve Altruist also had an excellent article on moving capitals especially the correct placement of cynos.
