Hey so i have been playing even since 2008 and have been a fan all the way. it just had a monopol in the sci fi genre that no other game could offer and it has been that way since 10 years appereantly.

But know there is a new kid on the block. its called star citizen!

this game is developed by chris roberts (wing commander) and is completely publicly funded (so far 19 million $).
im sure many of you have heard about it allready.

i myself noticed it a year ago but didnt pay much attention, after all i had eve. but a few weeks back i stumbled ofver it again and was amazed by the progress they have done.

in theory it will be the same as eve. you have a presistant universe with a player driven economy and space to discover yet it wont have as many systems or be as complex as eve is now but hey everybody has to start from a certain point.

the amazing part is that it has an incredible amount of detail from the cockpit to the real physics engine (cryengine 3) everything you see on your ship or in on the bridge actually has a purpose.

the game wont launch untill 2015 but you can allready walk around in your hangar or go into ships and in early december they want to implement a dogfighting arena where you can test your skills agains oher players.

i dont want to run a campaign against eve online here because i still love this game.

all im saying is that well finally get some competition into this genre which might result into benifits for us players.

if you want check out the star citizen homepage https://robertsspaceindustries.com/

and please tell me what you think.

Not really competition to EVE since it sits in a different genre.

In the same way that Command & Conquer and Call of Duty are Warfare Sims.

SC is a twitched based Space FPS game. EVE online is more tactical.

We also wont have this nice Sandbox with so many people around. SC will be Instanced based.

I am more looking forward to Squadron 42 Campaign of the game.

EvE is slow tactical game that takes place in a galaxy filled with thousands and Star Citizen is a Space F-16 simulator that takes on a server filled with a few.

What they have in common is the terrain looks similar.

I don't see why people keep posting that Star Citizen is competing with Eve.

Star Citizen is a Cryengine game and is absolutely not an MMORPG. They're both in space, and that's the end of the similarities. Star Citizen is far closer to a flight sim than Eve.

Well its a fighter sim which means its a twitch game which is not EVE.

Looking to talk on VOIP with other EVE players? Are you new and need help with EVE (welfare) or looking for advice? Looking for adversarial debate with angry people?

Elite: Dangerous also will have persistent universe / servers. It has smaller budget (~$3mil) though.

+ two more sandbox games are coming - Repopulation (sci-fi) and Camelot Unchained (fantasy). Both with PvP and death penalties.

It seems 10 years period without PvP sandbox competition for EVE is coming to its end.

edit: btw here is the list of forming SC alliances including 1000+ FJLK (a.k.a. Goonrathi) ships.
