Question about Covert Ops, Stealth, and Exploration

Hello,

I've been playing for about a month and have focused a lot of effort on mining and running the SoE epic story arc. I enjoy mining solo as it allows me to play around with the market, interface settings, and reading the EvE wiki while my ship mines in the background (not really AFK mining, I keep up dscan and keep a watchful eye on the local chat and overview).

I'm thinking about a second career once my mining skills and ship are where I want them to be. The Covert Ops, Stealth Bomber, and explorer sound interesting. It sounds to me like this combination allows you explore when you want to play solo, be useful in a fleet, and provide a service.

So my questions are,

- Do Covert Ops, Stealth Bombers, and Exploration (stealth, cloaking, etc) involve the same skill paths? Are there many skills in common? Or does it really come down to ship choice and fittings?

- Thinking long term, are there any tutorials for to for this profession? I"m guessing I will have the skill training way before I have the ISK required to buy the hardware.

Any suggestions or advice is appreciated.

Thanks.

Yes to a point the Cov Ops and Stealth Bombers Share the Cloaking Skills. Scanning Skills make you useful in both Scouting and Solo Exploration. The Ship Skills is where you run into Differences. Bombers Will Require Racial Frigate V. There are other Cov Ops Ships as will. Transports Ships like the blockade Runners. Etc.

The skillpath is very similar, as you need Cloaking skills for both and Covert Ops for both. Covert Ops / Exploration requires the exact same skills for use in PVP as it does in Exploration (aside from Analyzer skills), whereas you'll need to build up your missile skills for Stealth Bombers. There are quite a few secondary skills that you'll also need to keep building up like Electronics, Engineering, Navigation, etc. Two skills you absolutely will need to train if you go down the combat route are Weapon Upgrades and Advanced Weapon Upgrades. They are simply too useful and critical for any and every ship. Train WU to V, and ideally also AWU to V (though for a while you can get away with AWU IV).

Don't forget that for the stealth bomber, you will need to train extra skills, like torpedo/missiles and maybe ewar skills... it's not all to be able to fly it, but a stealth bomber without weapons... eh Blink

Don't wait! Start training now if you want another character. Even if you aren't using it, train some core skills and you'll be happy you have them later on. Unless of course you rely on buying plex to pay for your accounts.

Edit: Yikes. For some reason I thought you were talking about making an alt. Re-reading seems kind of obvious that you weren't.

Everyone else has it covered above, I'll just add two bits oof advice:

When you have your stealth bomber, join the Bombers Bar channel. You'll get fitting advice and they will take you on fleets where many kills will be had. It is a lot of fun.

Finally, never not be cloaking. Get in the habbit of cloaking when you can and checking and rechecking that the cloak module is still active. Even in hisec, develop that habit. Many a covops ship has been lost at planet X in a wormhole because dude forgot he wasn't in hisec any more. Always be cloaked whenever possible.
