Win 8. Every patch breaks game since Odessey.

You know, if you're getting problems that not that many other people are getting and ccp cant reproduce then it typically indicates something on your machine is causing issues. Is your machine completely up to date (yes even the .net install in optional updates), and malware free? Do you have any programs that are really invasive that can cause changes in how other programs work or block certain background functions? do you have a non standard setup?

If it were an issue with the game everyone would be having the same problems.

Other than the one patch which the announced on twitter as having issues, and since fixed, I've not seen many people saying this, and there's plenty of people here confirming no issues. This would point to client side issues, and one of the more common ones is where people crash it out mid patch thinking it's frozen, which leaves the game half patched and causes some issues.

You really don't think I tried this.

To be clear. It works just fine on a fresh install of the game. Just fine. I can download the whole thing and it works fine.

It's the launcher. It's a normal install of Win 8. One user.

It worked just fine for at least two months. I ran this trial and one before I let die. So around two months of perfect running. It even patched back then.

It now stops at 15% at the launcher.

which is a very common error that repair doesn't fix because it then crashes. I did try everything. Ran from direct files and not shortcuts, ran patcher several times. Ran REPAIR FOR HOURS OVER AND OVER AND OVER TO NO EFFECT. I tried everything the GM said such as deleting the Manifest file.




Nothing works except just reinstalling the game.

Then it works fine until the patch.

Mine does it because it was orginally installed on a domain user account and then the machine was taken off the domain and used a local admin account. Since then every patch it errors. I'd imagine its a permissions issue somewhere on a file.

I just run the repair tool and its fixes it until the next time.




Single user. I can replicate the problem by installing the last version and allowing it to patch. It breaks the game and repair.

A latest "offline" download works absolutely fine.


So I can play, I just have to redownload the entire game every time it patches.

(I even went ahead and fresh install the entire OS to avoid any Steam interference. I didn't even install windows antivirus. I disabled the firewall. I tried the F5 refresh the recommend in the dozens of thread on this problem that they seem to have over and over again. I'm actually quite saavy at this since it's been now days and days of reading threads and postings. So now it's like a challenge and there's literally no answer for this issue.)

But to be clear again, a fresh install works fine. You have to redownload the game after every patch, and that is not cool.

I'm having a COMMON problem with literally a dozen unanswered threads in the Issues, Workarounds, and dead silence section of the forum.

Have you looked at your anti virus? It may be causing the issue as many people with win 8 are not having problems.
So I am thinking it is something else other than win 8 like your anti virus.

if it gets stuck i just close it and reopen it, then it normally works, had the problem just once

heh, I just launched the patcher on win8 and it got stuck right at 15%, OH NOES BROKEN!!!!

then I wiggled the launcher and it jumped to like 80% and is loading up fine now.
