Ludonarrative Dissonance, does EVE have it?

Ludonarrative Dissonance, is the concept where the storyline is the polar opposite of the gameplay experience.

In EVE we are told that we are building a new world, when in reality I feel we are just doing lots of copypasta of existing assets and blowing everything else up.

If I make 10 spaghetti and meatball sandwiches did I really build a new world or did I just fill the existing world with duplicates of the same carb laden snack?

So there you go, a big word... and a question.

Are you making EVE better or are you just filling it with 100 drakes for the sake of having another 100 drakes?

Thank You Obama!

I feel a dissonance in the Force.

Came expecting tears and nonsensical argument.
Left hungy, craving meatball sandwich.

If one were to ignore the obvious troll, one could argue that the changing landscape of alliances and coalitions that EvE has is indeed a strong indication of "a new world being build", in a conquistadorian, "let's kill the natives and bring them smallpox" kind of way. However, as one has been told that arguing in third person is indicative of a troubled mind, one refrains from doing so.

Eve's purpose is to have fun. 100 drakes is more fun than 0 drakes. Unless lag.

But what is better - 100 drakes or 100 meatball sandwiches?

The ludonarrative is the story built by the players.

The world we are building in EVE is the real one of friends & enemies, not the fake one of military hardware and ammunition.

The embedded narrative involves torture methods, means of extracting the expertise for capsuleer implants, backstory about super weapons and super villains, and conflict between the empires kept in check only by conspiracy at the very highest levels of power.

There is no dissonance, unless you believe that the world that we are building is represented by attributes in the game.

TL;DR: the spaghetti and meatball sandwiches are the props for a stage play, the world we are building is the script.

Ludonarrative Dissonance ... why do I get the feeling that this expression was made up by some overpaid academic who has never had a toasted meatball sandwich in their life?

All hail the Flying Spaghetti Monster!

Obviously the OP was touched by his noodly appendage.

OP: Of course we are. This is a game. We are not immortal, and we do not live in the backstory, but we make up our own stories. Like that one time I fell into a black hole. True story.
