...............and you children will never learn to sit still for 90 minutes. Ever.

Disney Invites Kids to Bring iPads to Theaters for ‘The Little Mermaid’ Re-Release

"According to the app’s trailer, participants will be able to play games, compete with fellow audience members and sing along with the movie."

Thanks Disney. Now us adults will truly stay home.

Wonderful. A new achievement for our culture. Eliminate any patience that might be needed to sit through a 90 minute movie. A hyperactive animated one at that. I'm glad my kids are too old for Disney, that theatre experience sounds like pure hell.

It's just so unbelievably stupid I'm a bit in shock to be honest.

This is 'the last straw' for.....something, I'm not sure what.

ed: apparently they are getting quite the mouse-ear-ful. I'll post what I find out.

It's not just the adults. The more quiet and reserved kids won't like it either.
Ruined movie experience for the whole family! \o/

The film’s Sept. 20 theatrical re-release is part of a new Disney initiative called Second Screen Live

Yes. "Let's train children to compete" with other audience members to be the biggest distraction during a movie.

I would pay to see the installation of the Toilet of Shame everywhere.

I predict this little PR stunt will fizzle pretty badly. Still, it's a bad precident.

I would pay a premium to go to that theater.

Tell someone you love them today, because life is short. But scream it at them in Esperanto, because life is also terrifying and confusing.

What's wrong with singing along, guys!? The kids will be happy kicking seats, yelling, throwing things, and they'll want to do it all over again!

until that ipad slides between the seats, drops and shatters. Fun adventure time turns to whining.

I'm just waiting for the real writers to start posting analyses of this.

Maybe by this evening or something.

?? Not following you.

What other company has promoted such a thing theatrically before ?

ed: ......and things like William Castle hiding electrodes in theater seats for "The Tingler" back in the 50s do not count.

"Imagine a theater full of children, with everyone looking down at a bright screen instead of watching the movie," writes PAR editor Ben Kuchera. "Let's hope that the app is silent or you'll be dealing with hundreds of speakers all playing music with different timing, or at different volumes. Hellish."

Disney first tested the use of the app in theaters last fall with Tim Burton's “The Nightmare Before Christmas.” The company says the trials resulted in "positive" responses among viewers, though you certainly wouldn’t think that based on the 5-1 ratio of “thumbs-downs” to “thumbs-ups” on the trailer’s Youtube page.

From Comments: "I'm not sure what Disney is trying to accomplish here. Are they admitting the movie can't hold the attention of a young child and needs an accompanying video game in order to do so? I think that's demonstrably untrue though, Disney movies have always been good at making young kids want to watch them over and over again."

I find it interesting that a few are calling this a desperate attempt by struggling theater owners.

I call it a desperate attempt by an INDUSTRY that got rightfully burned at the box office this past summer.
