making ISK to fund my adventures

so i joined a corp. BNI. so far so good. i joined my first fleet action last night and it was pretty fun, although i still need to understand a lot of the lingo (tacklers, dscan, etc...). i didnt die at all the entire night, most likely b/c my ship was too slow and my weapons didnt have the range. it was fun, though.

so i realize that once i start getting better, ill probably start to die, a lot. so i have some questions regarding making ISK to fund my adventures..

1) i hear that exploration in null sec is a very profitable as opposed to mining for example. thoughts?

2) originally i thought i would mine tritanium in high sec and transport it to low sec, but then i hear that its best to transport items that break down to lots of tritanium, like hybrid turrets. so maybe buying turrets for cheap somewhere else and then transporting it to low sec would be profitable?

3) i dont think i want to get into FW just yet, as i want to try my hand at some of the care bear methods of ISK making.

whats says the all knowing and wise EvE community?

secondary questions regarding MUMBLE and TS3...

last night while in a feet i had to be in a room in mumble with all of the other fleet members so i can listen to orders etc.... which is fine and all, but that prevents me from speaking with my best friend.

so...is there a way in Mumble that i can still listen to the main room but at the same time talk to someone else? for example in Planet Side 2, the integrated voice chat has options for squad chat, platoon chat, outfit chat...so no matter what you can hear what is said but if you only want to talk to someone you have seperate push-to-talk buttons for the different platoon/outfit/squad etc...

if you cant do it in mumble maybe ill just have Team speak and mumble open at the same time...

1) Exploration and ratting in null sec is far more profitable than mining, and isn't particularly risky if you are in friendly space.

2) There is no point in taking minerals to low sec, there is no demand for them there. Virtually all production takes place in either high sec or null. However, you are correct, there are certain items that break down into a higher volume of minerals than the original item. I am not an industrial player, so I would encourage someone else to verify that this hasn't changed.

*** I would implore you not to spend your opening days/weeks/months/ever in EVE mining. It is terribly dull, and isn't worth the time invested unless you are using multiple accounts. There are many more profitable and engaging ways to make your fortune.

As for Mumble, there is a feature that allows you to set up sub-channels for certain groups.

Example:

-Fleet A-
*FC*
*Random Player*
*Random Player*
*Random Player*
*Random Player*
===[Subfleet 1]
===*You*
===*your friend*

You will all be able to communicate, but those in the subfleet channel can bind a second push-to-talk button to be used only for communication within the subfleet channel. The capability to do this needs to be set up by a server admin though, and I'm not sure of the feature's exact name.

RATTING :)
Just cruise the belts and kill the rats. Loot n salvage by all means - plenty BS rats 1.5mil bounties and good chance of faction spawns to generate expensive loot drops.
Also if mineral acquisition is your thing there can be Hauler spawns - rats that contain millions of units of minerals (Trit, Pyrite even Mexallon) - just keep an eye on local for enemies and neutrals - head for safety until they are gone. SERIOUSLY, don't think "its just a 1 month old character I can handle him" It's his mates in covert ops ships that will suddenly land on you via a covert cyno jump from several systems away. ;)

I`d suggest focusing on some sort of semi-passive form of acquiring ISK. This way you can enjoy dabbling in fleet warfare and at the same time make money not necessarily spending hours grinding missions or mining.

There are few possibilities here:

- Planetary Interaction (excluding high-sec) can net you a hefty amounts of ISK with little to none effort once set up properly.
- Station trading (this is where i started) can be incredibly profitably once set up in one of the major trade hubs. Do your homework properly and you won`t have to play the .01 isk game that is so popular.
- Another option would be investing in bonds created by players. For further information regarding this topic visit Market Discussions subforum.
- Scamming on an alt account could prove to be profitable as well, albeit you need to be clever about it. Silly geese abound so actually you might get lucky with no effort whatsoever.

Here`s the most essential information you`ll need concerning PI conveyed in this hefty article:

As for the station trading take a look at this page:

Make sure you absorb as much as you can and don`t be afraid to experiment. After all the best way to learn is by our own mistakes. Also for further reference on the subject matter ask uncle Google. Plenty of guides regarding both methods of making money on YouTube as well. Try to pick the most recent articles and videos.

For very new players, skill points are something you should think about. What can you do to make isk without very many skill points? Since you'll obviously want to train stuff like combat skills!

I would rank, from least skill intensive to most skill intensive,

-Station Trading
-Hauling
-Planetary Interaction (low/null sec!)
-Exploration (low/null sec!)
-Ratting
-Missions
-Mining
-Industry

Perhaps others will disagree :p

(Edit for more ideas!!)

It's worth noting that you can train up an alt for some of these activities, such as station trading (takes about half a day pausing your main). Just stick them in a trade hub and check them a few times a day to update orders. This will let you do whatever you want on your main (FW) while still safely making money in high sec without having to train carebear skills.
