at best, with good skills, mining in a fleet and selling the ore\refined minerals at a good rate you're still only going to be looking at 30mil an hour.
If you put those skills into making things explode or into logi you could run incursions for double that in about the same amount of time.
Mining, although easy and not requiring much attention is terrible income, as it should be.

Think of eve this way "you can have two of the following three. easy, safe, profitable" if you manage to find something that's all three, then milk it until others discover it.

Join a corp, make friends.. that the best way to succeed at eve. Look for a corp which has some players that have been around 2 or so years.
Getting into a mission with someone running lvl4's is the best way to make isk early on. Check out helpmymission channel for help in the meanwhile, or feel free to convo or mail me in game. If I am on and close to where you are you welcome to join in, as is any one really.. I get bored of playing with myself and like to help out.

Is it more profitable to do 3 level 3 missions or run one level 4 mission, if it takes the same amount of time?

L4 (security) missions, including loot and LP will make far more isk/h than L3.

L3 (security) shines when it comes to fast generation of corp and faction standings.

CCP Greyscale: As to starbases, we agree it's pretty terrible, but we don't want to delay the entire release just for this one factor.

Keep in mind that it is 30M an hour you get for next to no effort while having fun on your second character that your semi-afk miner is paying for.

Whether it's ice or ore, you will end up with plenty of ISKies to fund your characters and your PVP habit. Or whatever else tickles your fancy. Just make sure you have your sound on and the alarms set at a level that will give you time to alt-tab to your miner and get things sorted if an unfortunate situation is developing.
