Good Job CCP!

After almost 3 years of playing and never having a issue with patching, you finally managed to break my client with yesterdays patch.

Trying to start the launcher yesterday evening delivered an offline page. Later, the launcher managed to display something like "this 16 bit application is not supported by 64 bit Windows 7". WTF Lol.

Tried to run repair.exe, but that thing has been downloading indexes for more than 3GB by now. I currently have to use mobile broadband with a local prepaid card. Guess I was lucky, that I had already switched cards. Imagine roaming at 7.2 MBit with this.

I also tried to start the update process using exefile.exe, but the update seems to hang in step 6/7.

By now, the launcher doesn't even start anymore, with something in the error log saying, it's not a valid Windows 32 application.

I cannot post the log file contents here, because it's interpreted as html.

Any help will be much appreciated. Some characters are going to have empty queues by tonight. And there's also a large research tower that needs some attention.

Edit:

Tried further stuff. Starting EVE in safe mode using a backup I was able to reproduce the 16 bit error message:

"Unsupported 16-Bit Application"

"The program or feature "\??\C:\Programs (x86)\CCP\EVE\launcher\launcher.exe" cannot start or run due to incompatibility with 64-bit versions of Windows. Please contact the software vendor to ask if a 64-bit Windows compatible version is available."

Thank you for the feedback and sorry to hear, that you're affected by this as well.

Lets hope it's not a connection issue. I would be out of EVE for more than a week from now on in that case.

Try this:
https://forums.eveonline.com/default.aspx?g=posts&m=3595908#post3595908

Copy all the files out somewhere else, run the repair tool in the new directory, recopy them back into original folder and overwrite.

5 hours messing with it throughout the night and I finally figured out a workaround in time to not feel like playing anymore tonight lol

Thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated.

I'm stuck with a mobile broadband connection atm. Problem is, that repair.exe starts downloading hundreds of megabytes of index data @7.2 MBit/s in step 1. It's literally vaporizing Euros.

And it doesn't stop. I've already burnt through approximately 4GB worth of data or 12,50 Euro.

A new client download is about 6 GB, provided everything works. But I guess in reality it is more like another 30 or 40 Euros just to download.

Indeed. While I haven't been to friendly in my op, this is not only absolutely game breaking, but also a real nuisance if you have to pay for the download.

Perhaps you can hit up a spot with wifi Mara? Or a friends place who has hardwire net with an external drive or something.

I also had the 16bit app error on my launcher before I did the copy and repair, Eugene, and now my launcher is working, too. It even managed to get todays patch without hassle after doing that.

My mobile connection is really good here. I can see the access point across the valley. Small town, few users. Download rates are between 1 and 2 Megabytes per second. Downloading this weeks MS patches (around 180 MB) felt like being a matter of "seconds". All internet cafes in the region have disappeared in the last years because of this.

I'm on vacation here and not going to bother my local friends. All I intended to do in the evening, was to update my queues and keep my large research pos busy. I already spent way too much time with all this.

After two rainy days sun is back and although the snow went right down to 1700m, I'm going up there and get some fresh air now Big smile.

Thanks to everybody for helping! I'm out and let's hope I can get back to EVE next week.
