Sensor strength vs Probing

An friend of mine showed his new t3 legion setup as its was setup for boosting gangs .
I asked why he used eccm radar mods. as teh rest of the setup had no tackle or web fitted what so ever.

And he talked about the higher your sensor strength the harder it is to probe your ship.
So i told him that sig radius radius is resposible for that.

however more ppl in his alliance told him the same.

so my question.

Does boosting your sensor strength makes it harder for you to be probed out?

if anybody could en lighten me what the theory behind it is

cheers

Yes. One's probeability is a ratio of sig radius vs. signal strength. T3s with the sensor-enhancing subsystem and enough ECCMs cannot be probed down.

so please enlighten me how that works? i have been probing for ages but never heard about singnal strength effecting sig radius as thats what you are probing out.

Update

well he just tested it and with eccm and 8 probes it was 44% without its 100%
so it does make a differance..

That was fixed with Incarna. You can now probe down any ship, though you may need implants to do it...

Someone didn't read some patch notes. Smile

CCP "corrected" this in the last patch so now it is possible to be probed down no matter how many ECCMs you slap on (i.e. the "unprobable tick" doesn't work anymore). Still... such configurations are quite hard to be probed down (I believe you need near perfect skills or something of that nature).

To be able to probe the "unprobeable" ship setup you need:

Covert ops ship
Sisters Launcher
Sisters Probes
Scanning Rigs
FULL Virtue Set
Other Scanning Implants (PPH-2)
Probing Skills at Level 5.

Total Cost : 2bil or more.

Next to nobody flies around with 2bil Virtue set... So un-probe-able is still viable setup.

( BTW I have full Virtue set and have tested this personally. )
