Picture this for one second, youre flying around high sec doing missions when you see a T1 hauler with a kill right attached to em, you dont think of the consequences, youre looking to prove to your corp you can pvp, so you accept the killright and open fire, after a long hull tank he goes down, its your first victory after a string of close yet informative losses. while learning alot from defeat you certainly want to put a "W" up in the Kill column so that feels good

A few Hours later you and a friend decide to go roaming low sec, only one way to learn pvp and that is to pvp, so after eluding what was certainly a trap but just the skin of your teeth, you move deeper into low sec, scanning down a kestrel. at this point adrenline takes over, hearing FC commands in teamspeak becomes second nature, you hit gate jump on contact, the kestrel sees you and starts to book it, ah but you have a 20km warp disrupter, what seems like eternity you get the lock and snatch escape from your targets grasp, and 20 seconds later its all over as bits of what used to be a kestrel fly everhwere in space. Not only did you get a "W" but you managed to get 2 victories, a minor escape and one hell of a adrenaline rush in what is known as EVE pvp.

This story isnt fiction, just an hour ago I scored my second kill with the help of a friend in low sec, a day after i hit a month old, I have a victory to hang my hat on, but it came with extensive training, listening to my FC, and mentors who all helped me down the path of PVP, although this is a small short lived victory it couldnt be sweeter, I am glad I got to experience the rush that 4000 people in CFC and TEST got to experience a few days prior to me getting the trial, now it is time to continue honing this art, and i hope that rush never fades.

Welcome fellow capsuleer and happy you've enjoyed your experience.

You will see and fight in large pvp fights like 6-VDT since it's your goal and wish everything you'll do from now on will lead to that magic moment of a gigantic fight.

It's such an awesome experience to have indeed, personally tried some of the biggest fights in Eve and can't now continue to be thrilled about, instead I've learned to love far more middle ground and lower fight types that imho are those you learn so much more, have so much more decent fights/fun/adre rushes it's difficult to explain.
Once you've fought a couple times in huge battles they become boring, predictable, nothing but a boring moment in your gaming time just like mining or running mission can be.

Have fun whatever you decide to do or whatever your goals are in Eve, be happy, be cool Blink

Thank you very much, I love pvp, I would like to experience a massive battle like 6VDT one day, but right now I am more then content with my 1v1 and 2v1 frigate fights :P

best way for a new player to learn pvp is to download the test server *singularity* and go their the risks vrs rewards arent very high. but they can loose ships and learn from their mistakes the easier way, without suffering alot of isk losses like they would on TQ.

OP: Small gang/solo pvp always, in my experience, gets you a better rush. Mostly because it's so up close and personal. In a bigger fight you're just shooting at different boxes on your overview whenever you are given the command to do so. So I'd say your experince was worth more than that 4000-man fight you mentioned.

Glad you've got people who can introduce you to PVP. Makes the learning process a lot nicer.

Depends. Nothing touches fighting for a reason. Defending a region against odds stacked against you successfully is a lot more satisfying than a 1v2 you win. When your 500 man fleet finds itself facing 700 + a blob of titans, and you get them to retreat, trust me that feeling is a whoooooole lot better.

I think Youre absolutley right, escaping when all hope seems lost is as big of a rush as getting a killmail. I am enjoying small gang/fleet pvp at the moment I will be happier when i can randomly roam low sec by my self and get a killmail, but I will always love small gang/fleet pvp

I find that there are a couple of factors tied into 'the rush' factor. What does the value of what I fly mean to me? What's my pod worth and what's the risk of losing it in the coming engagement? If I lose this fight, will I lose previous investments? How wil this fight impact me, my corp, my alliance, my coalition... Two years in, frigate PVP doesn't get me a rush anymore apart from the sheer speed of the gameplay, which can be challenging. But I've never focussed on ISK making schemes much apart from what I need to run our corp at the scale we prefer, so a nicely fitted BC or BS can still offer me that kind of rush. Comparing small-gang to larger warfare I'd say it all depends on how deeply you are invested, emotionally or financially, into any given entity.

Oh yes, you will meet the big bad blob. However, when facing a big bad blob it's worth remembering one thing:

"Don't panic and carry a Cyno"

(Because once they blob you, it is in your full right to blob them back with a bigger blob. Additionally, the Cynosural Field Generator is, likely, the most useful module invented. Not only it can be used to call in all manners of nasty against your foe, it can also be used to hitch a ride on a friendly Titan and in times of drunken roams when the fleet has long lost all forms of dignity - makes for an amazing disco ball!)

...in any way, it's always nice to see tales of people converted to the side that has cookies.

Well, not everyone has a titan in their corp or alliance. But fit a cyno anyway. If you are going to die, at least have the satisfaction that maybe a couple blinged out campers **** their pants (or at least gophered) before they realized nothing was on the other end.P

CCP, there are off buttons for ship explosions, missile effects, turret effects, etc. "Immersion" does not seem to be harmed by those. So, please give us a persisting off button for the jump gate and autoscan visuals.

By this logic trading isn't pvp either. Perhaps you should consider the idea that any player interaction acting in opposition can be pvp, instead of "my strictly defined ~~~~ebushido~~~~ is pvp and nothing else qualifies."

Welcome to the dark side. We have cookies, and we suggest you don't drink the cool-aid, that's for others to drink. The rush never really goes away. The calm right before, and the adrenaline rush as you come out of warp. Become a pirate like i did, you get it more often.

Thank you all for the replies and overall great words, I wish I could catch up and reply with each individual reply, but i can give an update, last night I was in low sec and I fought a Daredevil T2 frigate in my Kestrel that I have optimized the best i can with only 400k SP, although I lost I successfully got the DD down to about half armor using EM missiles, almost all mods are meta 4 at this point, but although I lost Im still learning, and im more then definatley getting that huge rush.

The Saying you will lose 10 more ships after you last victory before you win again until finally you just starting blowing up everything around you is ringing true, I cannot wait until that day comes, but until than I am more than satisfied taking on ships where I know im probably doomed if it means I come away with a lesson learned and what i shouldve and possibly could've done better

You have great taste in pvp frigs. If you ever plan on upgrading to the Corax I highly recommend it. Rocket corax can take out cruisers with ease as long as you manually fly it (click space).

keep on the good work, if you want to learn about frigs THIS is the perfect guide, it can help you a lot :D At first try to engage easy targets, DareDevil is preaty hard for a kestrel.

don't forget the other side of the pvp coin

don't think 'it won't happen to me' .. because it will, not every time, but often enough that you need to be comfortable with the idea that you will be the victim not the victor.

I was walking home the other night, cut through a dark alley, and there were 20 dudes standing there giving me an evil look.

Turning tail and easily getting away not being a manly option, I proceeded to have the literal **** kicked out of me.

A pair of soiled pants and some broken ribs later, I decided to bring a microwarpdrive and cloak next time.
