He could have left TS at any time, nobody was preventing him from doing so apart from himself. He choose to be there in the hope of getting a reward, the only thing keeping him there was greed.

I've listened in on the bonus room, while I personally found it distasteful and left after a while, I have no sympathy for the people who allow themselves to be taken advantage of in this way.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

What I do know is that THIS behavior is bad for EVE. Today someone is blurring the line for RL harassment, tomorrow someone will step over it. The day after, someone will leap and there will be press conferences and lawsuits. This can come back to bite us all.

Just don't do it, if you feel the need to exploit and hurt people AT COST, you are the one who needs help.

The people who would do this are morally responsible for their own actions, it's not the fault of CCP or eve in general. You might as well just blame the whole internet for the trolls out there.

Just because this stuff happens all the time in other video games and this guy was willing to do just about anything for video game it doesnt escape the fact that these guys are douches.

Don't get me wrong the scammed fella had it coming to him, but these guys just kept going on with it to the point of even involving the guy's family. The scammed dude shouldn't be compensated by any means or even sympathized, but **** guys I thought we were grown up adults who just wanted to fly in space for fun. Not sadistic ***holes...

Disagree. I would argue this incident provided a valuable life lesson to carbuilder. It makes sense that damaging ones own reputation in front of his family is quite low for any human being. However, this individual allowed it when he decided to put his gameplay on exhibit in front of his family. It is in the same vein as someone who gambles, loses it all, and has to come back and look his family in the eye. Only, this time it was done with monopoly money instead of real life money. In that regard you can say that Erotica1 and fellow members of the Order as doing this guy a favor. A favor of showing him his gullibility before he actually physically damages his homestead.

Also scamming is not considered abuse, so even if it is out of game it is still legal

I can't really agree on that either. It kind of makes it as though you're giving human beings a free pass on scamming and belittling for the sake of them "learning something".

We shouldn't feel sympathy for the guy who let himself just be made a fooled of, but to accept these actions from the scammers as just "it happens" is just ludicrous.

I would never hold CCP responsible for it's players, but being a big enough troll can get you jail time. While it isn't CCP responsible, things we do can (sadly) open them to litigation.

Tell me again about how every playstyle you dont engage in "doesn't require any effort" and everyone who does it needs to die in a fire. Be sure to mention about how you tried it once but it was too easy/boring/ethnic-homophobic slur.

Firstly, there's no scam. Secondly, if you don't like it, do something about it.

Lol what?

CCP is almost completely idemnified against culpability from any reaction between players, so long as the ToS is not violated. Especially if it took place outside of their own game (and it did, since it happened on Teamspeak).

So unless you can point out some part of the User Agreement/Terms of Service that Erotica 1 broke, the most the "victim" (if anything, he is victim only of his own stupidity) can do is file a petition that will be ignored or laughed at.

This is what bothers me the most about the "stop cyber bullying" crowd. You try and legislate manners. Thing is, the Internet is an entirely voluntary participation. At any point in which you cannot continue to tolerate what is going on, you can click that big red X in the upper right corner same as everybody else. What that means is that any offense you take from some content, is entirely on you. Other people shouldn't be legally responsible for your emotions.

"Verily, I have often laughed at the weaklings who thought themselves good because they had no claws."

Not true actually, the worst CCP can get is adverse publicity, they are not responsible for the conduct of their players. It's all explained in the eula.

I really think this is issue is pretty clear cut.

CCP made a game that mimics real life. In real life, people are conned, or worse. The spaceship simulation is merely a wrapper to a game of social interaction, devoid the rules set forth by society. Yes, there are exceptions. But the rules (EULA), do not forbid this type of behavior.

Facts are facts.

The social interaction did not take place within EVE. It took place on Teamspeak. The only thing that took place in game was the exchanging of goods.

At any point in time, the kid who got scammed could have taken the blow to the gut, and logged out.

Yea, so he may have taken an "EVE break."

Yea, it's hurts to lose a lot of isk.

But it was solely, and only by the choice of the guy who got scammed, to do everything. No one FORCED him.

Side Note: People who are willing to do stupid crap for space pixels, are exactly that...stupid. It is a game.

It's out of game by nature of the fact that they are making him do things unrelated to the game.

Then by that argument, it has nothing to do with EVE.
