How are "smart prices" on items in hangar/item holds calculated?

Hey fellow capsuleers!

- I was wondering exacly how the price on an item is calculated - the price you get once you mouse over an item in your stash. I am asking because it often doesnt really corrospond with the value of the item on the local market. Also, I guess, the total value of your stuff, e.g. in your hangar, is just added value of the ships' "smart price"?

Thanks in advance

It's a regional average (or universal average?) over a period of time from what I understand, and very wrong in many places.

I would really like to find out wether it is regional or universal. I guess regional in some regions would be nonsense all the time

Don't think the devs have ever confirmed exactly how it's calculated. It's often wrong, so you can't trust it no matter how they've done the calculations.

If you are referring to the price that shows up by default when you click 'Sell This Item,' that should be the price of the highest buy order on the market. The range (regional, system, station) would depend on who initially set the buy order, but it will never be universal.

Edit: I just reread that you were talking about smart prices and remembered what they actually were. Those are calculated by the combined regional average for sell and buy orders on the item, or something close to that.

It's the regional average over a 90 day period IIRC.

In the beginning there was nothing, which exploded.

I've heard that it's the regional average at the time that servers go down for downtime. For example, if you had a Damage Control II in your hold, the smart price is the regional average as of downtime that day.

CCP hasn't said a lot regarding smart prices and how they're calculated - it'd be nice if somebody tried to figure it out, but I guess the effort involved wouldn't be worth it.

I suspect it's universal rather than regional, as you still get estimated isk values on salvage in wormholes, where there are no regional markets at all.
