I know that the troll will not be long now ... but the fact remains that this could be interesting to allow the community to participate in the development of small add-on for EVE Online.

First of all, I would like to clarify that I do not propose a system like World of Warcraft, but more a add-on system monitored and restricted, meaning that we could not add any add-on that is not approved by CCP, found on a third party website.

How? By requiring to go through the launcher to install a add-on.

First, the manager add-on. It is an integrated launcher to EVE Online (available in singularity), which offers 2 tab:
> "My add-on": allow to manage the add-on installed on eve (activate / deactivate and uninstall)
> "Library": Allows you to download and install add-on via a dedicated server, server offering only add-on verified by CCP (through volunteers?).

Installing an add-on:
To download and install a add-on, it will require to open the launcher, and click on the "add-on" button. This will launch the add-on manager that will allow you to download and install add-on.

Submit a add-on:
To submit a add-on or update a add-on, it will require to go on the website of EVE Online, the account manager, to propose a new add-on, or propose a update an add-on which is the author.

In addition, this system add-on will allow to create of new Items quickly, integrating tools developed by the community, modified to fit directly into the game

Some example of use of add-on:

> The appearance of the interface: Everyone has their own taste, not everyone like the design of the interface (myself included, I admit), it would be nice if other interfaces look would be available.

> Added feature: Add the possibility to add functions to the tools of the game, like tools for market comparisons, or statistics (globals damage done in a fight, for example) for example.

Of course, the add-on such as a bot, or auto-report intel, will not be allowed.

(Sorry for my bad English, English is a language I did not practice, so I use google translate to translate my "wall of text")

tl,dr:

Allow the community to develop add-on for:
>customise the look of eve online interface
>add new features
>but do not allow to develop bots
And allow only install from an add-on manager created by CCP, and from a dedicated CCP server.

I for one never understood why people were against WoW-like lua addons. Apparently, it gives an unfair advantage to people who use them.

And I don't think it should be up to CCP to decide which addons I use, as long as they use the API CCP would provide. I've used a lot of addons in WoW, some smaller ones which I created and modified, and it sure has improved the UI in comparison to what was default - and I'm sure it would be so for EvE's UI, which to say the least is lacking.

But we shouldn't ignore how long it takes to develop a good UI library, and atm developer time may best be spent elsewhere.
