Different structure HP thought

How would it work in EVE to implement different types of targeting zones on a ship? Just a thought that came to me during my work shift tonight.
For example that you can hit the engine, shoot of a weapon, have different armor HP places to hit on the ship or perhaps damaging the CPU core. My inspiration came from the old Mechwarrior games.
The question is how hard it would be to add it, because the groundrules are based on total HP. And I know that people in most games are nostalgic. I´m not like that. I`m often want to make the created game universe more realistic
The good part is that it would bring more depth, realism and strategic thinking into the game. Also possibility for a bunch of more skills to train.
Also, how would it be to change bumping into real collisiondamage instead. I really don´t like the bumping part in the game. Just looks stupid to be honest.

What is it with late August and no one using Features and Ideas for, you know, features and ideas?

Or rather, lots of people are using it, but why do so many posts escape to other sections of the forums?

Do you have 200 million skillpoints? No? Then surely you have plenty of useful things still to train.

Have you ever titan bridged as part of a large fleet? No? Then try to imagine 200 guys in BS arriving in the same 5km3 area without touching each other. Though saying that it would be a great titan bridge stealth nerf.

Its not a terrible idea in general but its been suggested before and its going to take a lot of groundwork before it ever happens I reckon

Yes it was there, TQ died - the end.

And the proposal of targetting subsystems have been brought up some times now and I already said this week that the Feature and Idea forums need more than one page.

If we have more than one page that we could look at or a write protected archive of the old forums we could look at and see if nobody else had the same idea as you did in the last ten years.

Eve Minions is recruiting.

This is the law of ship progression!

How are you going to shoot my engines through my shields, armour and hull?

He'll have Geordi match the modulation of his phasers to the harmonic frequency of your shields.

Does that mean I'll get a button to reverse the polarity?

Ships are seen as spheres by the server, your "front" is based on your trajectory and all other effects from your ship are merely graphical in nature.
And collision damage will immediately make trade hubs death zones...

scram/web....make believe you shot the engine out

ecm...make believe you shot out turrets

or....as I always say....play WOT. Experience the thrill and excitement as a tier 5 in a t-9 t10 heavy match can shoot out your tracks (because its the about the only thing he can do)....again and again until a higher tier tank finally gets around to actually killing you.

Worth noting you then have the wonderful world of rebalancing for this feature. Minmatar rust buckets would have easier crtitical spots in my mind to shoot out. The technical fluff being since generally the faster race in most case....structure suffers to get that speed with reduced structure. Think the old school cars from the 50's and 60's that were built almost like tanks, hammer and buff it out workable for mnay body repairs. Then look at your current day much lighter unibody cars that has the fender bender crumple in even beyond point of impact.

57 chevy you could clip a wall and possible do more damage to the wall than the car. Hell the 57 chevy possibly could be driveable aftter. ferrari vs wall....wall is gonna whoop that ferrari's ass.

Missile launchers like cruise/torps are buried in hull so harder to shoot out versus guns jsut dangling out there.

This would be a balancing nightmare (edit: as the masses say ccp like amarr more because....caldari because....etc). Again look at WOT...Russian bias claims with a small enough hint of fact to make them never go away. Don't know what military history books they read, but apparently they said german tanks were coated in gasoline for example. They catch on fire in game likes it cool on hits nowhere near the back of the tank (or did when last I played it). My king tiger...I was actually shocked as hell if they did not have a fire in a match.
