Following people when they warp off

So before a fight I had last night, I warped to a station and saw someone sitting there in a Claw. Seeing that he is a criminal, I warped off to an asteroid belt, but that didn't work. He knew where exactly I warped off to.

My question is, how in the world do you know exactly where the person is warping off to without using the probes or D-scan?

He could see that you were warping toward the little white triangle in space that represents that belt. Then he followed you Big smile

They turn tracking camera on on the dscanner.

They click on you on the overview.

Then when you warp the camera follows/points to the spot. if there are 2 or more objects inline with your warp path - then they have to guess which you most likely went to.

If you have the camera enabled and click on a ship, the camera will follow them as they warp off. You can see exactly what they warp to though not the distance they warped at. Also if they warped to a cluster of celestials, you don't know which celestial they chose.

Thus when you panic warp or need to gtfo, it is best to warp to cluster and not warp at zero or 100. That will decrease the chance that someone will be able to follow immediately.

Plus, the Claw's an interceptor - it warps at 9AU/sec, half again as fast as a T1 frigate, three times as fast as a destroyer or cruiser.

dont let your corp mates know that you had to ask this question....especially if you claim to run a PvP corp....

Okay, thanks bud, I'll keep that in mind :). Sorry if it was a "noobish" question, I saw people doing that and had to know their secret. P

well its kinda like less of a secret and more like "ive been playing this game for one day common sense". have you seriously never watched someone warp off your screen? its not hard to guess where they are headed.

i dont mean to sound....well mean...but i just get really frustrated with the whole amateur corp thing. join RvB/eve-uni/brave or something similar, learn the basics of the game before you start claiming to be able to train newbies. tbh you are probably not training them well if you have questions like this. i would get at least two years game time in before you start spamming recruitment for unsuspecting new players who might not realize that their FC isnt an FC

As I read that, I know you had good intentions :). I have been playing this game for a long time, I have been reading alot about PvP, and Practicing what I preach. RvB sounds kinda good to me, I have been wanting to do that. I've actually been soloing for a while, and it is high time that I get myself into gear and get my corp into fleet roams. You are probably right, but I am getting better in PvP each day

I'm sorry if this is frustrating you.

well it doesnt frustrate me on a personal level because i dont fly with a noob-corp these days, and youre not my FC. made that mistake and learned from it. Its great youre learning and its great you wanna share what youve learned with others. Just keep in mind that a "long time" in eve is years, not months. Asking a question like this shows youve got a lot more to learn. Its not that its a "dumb" question or anything..its just that it was asked by someone who claims to train other players up for combat.

just know you are doing your corp mates a huge disservice by claiming to know how to play. for their sake, find a real FC, with FC skills, and let them run the training side. If you have a knack for recruitment/day to day op keep it up and I wish you the best of luck! just dont lie to your potential recruits and tell them that they are gonna get combat training when they arent.

+1000 points for letting me be an @$$hole and not being one back, your attitude shows that youll be in EvE for awhile and im sure that one day, youll be crushing with the best of em!

Lol, no problem! I also plan to be here for awhile, because I love this game and the community! Can't get enough of it :). I am not going back to WoW that's for sure, wasted 6 months not playing EVE which sucked. Also, thank you for the confidence boost, I appreciate it. I'll get on recruiting a FC asap when I have time (I am at work right now, and will make a post in the recruitment forum later.)

That can't POSSIBLY be the answer. There must be a kewl probing/dscan trick that's only taught to leet peeveepee'ers and nully alliances on how to do this... Or some trick keystroke to use on someone's name in Local that'll give us info that's only available to GMs or such...

There's that also, but no-one's gonna tell about *that*.

I guess I am almost a 'vet' by now. Hopefully not too bitter and managing to help more than I hinder. I build and sell many things, including large collections of bookmarks.

I'll still call you out on it. You're being an @$$hole. =)

I also plan to be here for awhile, and in that time I sincerely hope I don't lose my sense of dignity and end up pointlessly disrespectful and rude like the rest of you guys.

When in doubt, warp to the sun at zero.
It´s surprising how often even more experienced players emergency warp there...

i guarantee both the OP and you have spent more time playing eve than me, just fyi. look at my killboard. this isnt an alt. ive never blown up a ship that wasnt an NPC. YET im still an @$$...remarkable isnt it?

also, because you might not have picked up on this yet, EvE numbers are steadily increasing all the time. when you say something like "xyz is causing people to leave the game" you have to back that up with fact. the fact is that we are growing as a community, not shrinking. so either new players arent as sensitive as you make them out to be, or they are quitting EvE but still paying their subscription fees. which do you think it is?

again, i wasnt concerned that the question was asked, i was concerned that the question was asked by a player who was claiming to train other newbies. my goal was to just do some DC and hopefully encourage the OP to learn more before teaching. OP doesnt seem too upset, and im glad they had the guts to ask the question here so everyone else can learn as well.

sorry if i came across as undignified lol...god forbid...

When escaping always warp to a random celestial or a bookmarked safe spot at a random distance (Not zero) that way even if they are able to follow it is unlikely they will have guessed the correct distance.

616+ views and counting on this thread. If it was that obvious you'd think ppl would have figured it out. Shocked

Still, it's a useful tidbit to call out explicitly. Here's another obvious one: how can you tell if somebody is about to warp into your plex (ie sitting on the accel gate? ) Lol

How do new players realise if a ceo/trainer is any good, without knowing which questions to ask and a good reply.

There are a lot of bsd ceos out there claiming to be able to teach new players the ropes and we wonder why the asteroid belts are filled with 3 month old characters in a small to moderate sized corps with the nearest corp mste 10+ jumps away, assuming someone else is logged in and active.

Its all theve been taught to do and that's not healthy for Eve in the long run.

Its time to stand up against the bad empire based CEO telling falsehoods about what new characters can accomplish and pushing them towards an in game experience of drudgery and loneliness keeping them in the shadow of ignorance for at nest their own profit at worse apathy towards all the experiences that Eve has to offer.
