Get off my lawn. I do. I think the older players have just given up, though. You can't fix stupid.

What does it matter? Its not an avatar to me. That was Ultima. Not like it matters.

So I started in 2006, left around the time of Incarna which would have been 2011. Since I came back I've joined two alliances and here's what I've noticed. (you may or may not care)

- people now openly call their characters 'toons' which is pretty funny considering you would have been laughed off the forums for using such a word when I left. Probably down to the high circulation of eve's population, old guys leaving, new guys coming in from other MMOs

- It has become the norm to RMT, buying Plex so you can pvp because people are too lazy or do not have the time to earn isk other ways, a lot of people just cough up 15 euro/dollar when they die in their tech3 and just get another one with RL cash. Says a lot about the current generation of eve players.

Well - I still despise people calling their characters 'toons'

I have enough isk, so I don't sell Plex for isk, but people grew older and got jobs, so unless people have set up their ingame supply chain like industry, PI or trading, you make more money mowing an old ladies lawn as a 10 year old than you make ratting...

Sheep indeed - I keep characters I join alliances strictly separated from 'core' accounts. No isk transfers or station trades.

Not really - back then a bill was nothing to sneeze at, nowadays it's nothing, even to noobs.

- Solo pvp was hard to find by the time I left, now it's completely dead in all but FW plexes it seems. Off grid boosters are the norm and tag along for even frigate 'soloers'. Power creep and trends combine to make you spend more money on accounts if you want to compete.

Yeah - it's gamebreaking.

- The current two alliances that I've been in had very shaky understanding of game mechanics, listening to them on teamspeak made me realise that even though I've been gone a few years, I still had a far better understanding of how this game worked than most of these guys who had been playing solidly for 2 or 3 years. I wonder is it similar for others in 'this generation' of eve players.

You've been in bad alliances, probably.

What I find amusing is that you can apparently get so attached to your toon that any playful designation of this type of video game avatar is met with complete indignation. Maybe you should get out more.

"Toons": Only Douches
RMT: Incorrect. Please provide evidence of your claim.

Not so much sheep. Most people honestly have nothing to hide. The API give out only character information, no personal information, so there's no need to be all crazy about giving it out. You can also feel safer, as if you know your corp is fully vetting members, it's less likely (though not impossible) for there to be a spy in your corp.

Prices: Yes and no. Your reasoning for the price rise is wrong, and again I'd like to see evidence of that claim. Battleship prices have been increased as part of the whole tiercide stuff. With Tier 3 BC firing large guns, they were effectively better than battleships for a bit. Everything's been reshuffled a bit and the amount of minerals everything requires has been balanced out a bit, which affects prices. More isk now goes to other players however as sinks have been reduced a bit. Even clones prices were brought down.

Solo PVP: Off grid boosters were always relatively normal. They will be changing it in 1.1 to prevent offgrid boosting as far as I know though. FW was put in to be an easier place to find small scale PvP than endlessly driftign through null sec, so the fact that it worked is a good thing. There's still more changes needed, but they're gettign there.

- Eve's community is now a lot less elitist, which is good. Eve's community thought themselves the 'best' back in the day, but its community really isn't any better than World of Warcraft, or World of Tanks or any other online game in all honesty.

MEchanics: Generally the game was tougher back then, and a lot of the core mechanics haven't changed much, so I should hope you do have a better base of knowledge than them. The bit you'll fall down on though is the meta gaming aspects. They change quite often, and keeping up with everything that's going on can be a chore. Tiercide is forcing changes to what is flown all the time.

Elitism: Yes and no. Try joining a major incursion group without max skills and a bling fit ship and you'll still see good old elitism. We're still a better community though. Thinking about communicating with WoW players still makes me shudder a bit.

Kill rights are awarded when you are illegally killed. That's all. What other reason do you expect killrights to be awarded? When someone steals your cans?
People get flagged as a suspect for minor crimes, which makes them able to be killed by anyone, and I think that's enough. Kill rights allow you to flag someone as killable by anyone, and if they don;t get killed, you can activate it again later. Or sell it obviously. It's like a billion times better than it used to be.

The whole OP sounds like a speculative opinion piece looking for something to be mad at CCP for. Lemme guess, you lost something expensive, petitioned it, they said no, and now you're going to try to convince other players to turn on them because you can't afford another PLEX yourself and you're too lazy to grind.

I must vehemently disagree with this point.

Having played Tanks since beta (not played for about 3 months now) I can honestly say it has the worst, most toxic , community of any game I have been associated with in my 15+ years of gaming.
I suspect its down to the free to play aspect of the game, it just seems to attract complete and utter morons. The game itself is actually quite good, the reason I stopped playing was because of the total lack of anything approaching intelligence in the player base.

WHAT A GREAT POST!!!

A post on the forums of a particular video game, saying that you quit the game for a few years, now tried it again, and no longer care about it.

I CANNOT THINK OF A MORE EXCITING THING TO POST ON A GAME FORUMBOARD!!!!

RMT = real money trading = buying a plex with cash, then turning it into isk.

Just because it's authorized by CCP doesn't make it anything other than RMT

Can't deny some of what you say rings true, but things like the Domi (OP FOTM) and other BS and ships were given 'extra materials' to their blue prints.

Basically, you need to spend around the same ISK on materials for a Domi as a Hyperion (I think that was the idea anyways).

All part of the balancing that's been going on. You clearly haven't spotted that the T1 ships now run around a lot more than they used to. Who would have thought fleets of caracals would be scarey 3 years ago? lol not me.

Now, it's quite possible they have enough numbers to pop you quite fast!

So, time for you to play catch up so that you're as confused as the rest of us come September 3rd

There are good ships,

And wood ships,

And ships that sail the sea

But the best ships are Spaceships
