[Sarcasm] Nothing to see here right? Microsoft's security have always been 100% secure right? No need to worry about any possible IP spoofing/hijacking and making your computer think updates are coming from Microsoft right?[/Sarcasm]

Like many of us more objective posters are saying....all OS' have thier issues.

You are correct about that. I was just playing along. If anything Microsoft has been like an over protective mother to protect its IP and quick to fix any code that leaves it open to attack.

Like or hate microsoft, they probably have the most dependable OS on the market at the moment. You get what you pay for right?

And to show how old I am, I do have experience with Sun Solaris OS and dial up the way back machine. DOS 3.0

The MS customer Service for some of their products is really awesome. I mean awesome like really really awesome. Shocked

A friend of mine send an email with a question about how to do something in MS Access to their customer service, not even 15 Minutes later they actually called him back and gave him a solution.

The same day he had a more complicated question, the support guy just asked him to send him the files, tech guys fixed it and seend it back with a complete documentation on how to do it right not even 30 minutes later. I just sat there slack jawed ad couldn't actually believe what I was seeing there. For a second I was ready to believe all that was part of some weird episode of some kind of prank show. Shocked

Stupidity should be a bannable offense.

Fighting back is more fun than not.

As it has been said before, the OS`s are just tools, and Linux is not a great gaming platform. It shouldn't be, unless you want to create a specially-tailored distro for that (hello to nextgen consoles with embedded Steam and whatnot, yeah).

The vast majority of computer users are.. well, technically stupid (I personally liked one fine blog entry on a real-life experience of that). And being everywhere, these users form a major part of CCP's target audience. So why should the devs put some concentrated effort on maintaining a Linux package for EVE, if a capsuleer probably won't be able to resolve the tiniest issue on Linux that possibly has nothing to do with EVE itself?

There are just much more Apple users to justify an out-of-the-box Mac client. If you are on a Linux box, you're probably competent enough to run EVE in Wine. I may not be very competent in Linux, but I manage.

I myself use a 3-head Debian box as my workstation that can boot Win7 also. EVE lives in the latter partition, but is symlinked and works fine in Wine, though the performance leaves much to be desired (with NVidia proprietary drivers). As i'm an industrialist, I don't really care, as long as I can watch the chats and update the orders using a separate monitor where EVE window resides, while I work or waste time in other 2 heads. If I want to see some visual glory, I boot Win7, with just a central HD monitor, normal video / audio drivers and full DX support.

Why should I bother to migrate to Win8 now? Because of DX-100500? Living on a bleeding edge? I don't have any antivirus on Win7, no firewall, no sensitive information there in case the whole thing crumbles. Just a plain gaming OS. Suits me just fine.

Probably ignorant, but why switch away from Win7 that early? It is clear that Win8 has yet to establish itself.

Heck, my other PC still has winXP. Works.
Never change a running system (until the other one really REALLY brings advantages).

Using tablet, typoes are common and I'm not going to fix them all.

Due to the economy M$ like others is getting more customer oriented. Its them being nice....to maybe have you buy more. We are in the midst of a forest migration and we get M$ people on asia meet and greet tours who stop by and know this so they see how we are doing. basically we get off the book engineer support if nothing massive...and we jsut sit through thier sales pitches of expensive software we don't need/can't afford atm.

Sure they have a hidden agenda, but I'll grant them that to pick their brains. Its a business, its how it goes. Something some linux is uber people have yet to realize. Home use they won't see this most likely. It would be enterprise level. then even Ubuntu whose stuff is free will show a different side. YOur company needs support beyond what forums and google can give....ubuntu won't be so free. RH is more honest in this, they charge upfront at least for licensing based on tiers of support. Which if you must have the system up may be needed over going say cent os.

With Windows 8 completely open to the TPM backdoor making your PC remote controllable without you knowing and no ways to disable it, I am moving to Linux Mint. I assume a lot of other people will do the same given that Linux Mint is even more friendly than M$ Windoze. Is CCP thinking about supporting a Linux client? I know earlier it was supported but dropped. This might be a good time to resume. At the very least EVE should run well on Wine without configuration nightmares. Also CCP could provide instructions on how to run EVE on Wine for the less expert. The amazing thing is that with the same NVIDIA card, EVE runs at 60 FPS on Windoze but 200 FPS on Linux. What does people think about this matter? Let's find some TPM supporters...

you can always switch to windows 7, the one that didn't suck
