Alot of the corporations/alliances websites require a api key so the website knows your character is in the corp/alliance
and should you leave it denies you access

is this done automatically or does a admin/mod of the website have to do the work?
what programs are used for this?
does anyone have a wiki link/guide to these programs?

thanks in advance :)

It all depends on the software that the website it using. It'll be custom for each type.

I'd assume that there's a process that goes through the list of users, doing a check for each member, seeing who they're part of, and removing access, if they're no longer on the list.

This may happen at log in, though that would add latency.

Can only speak about our own forums so others might be different.
Im not the one who set up the forums but will point him here when i see him, but from what i have understood the forums will automatically check peoples API key every hour or so.
You can also go in and start a manual check your self whenever you want which wont mess up the automatic process (or, if it did mess something up i should have a very angry CEO breathing down my neck by now Lol ) and you can also do it for each individual member.

The whole system with using API keys is actually very handy, and saves a lot of time.

Only had trouble with it once when someone left their corp and had director roles in that corp and instantly joined our corp. Im guessing the API key picked up on the corp change because the member got access, but it also thought the member had the same roles as in their previous corp.
Was a bit of a shock when the person started to post in sections they were not supposed to have access too Lol

Would you happen to know of any programs that could do this?

Yes, as soon as someone has left the corp and the forums does the automatic check (or you ask it to do the check) their access gets removed and they will have a small "guest" tag under their name so its easy for people to know that its a former member.
