If you have even the slightest inclination of wanting a carrier or other jump capable capital ship at some point in your career, then you'll want at least one other account for it to light cyno's.

I have a few accounts which are active or inactive as my whims dictate...can be a lot of fun. Not work as some suggest. If you raise up an alt, you may decide to sell them someday as well. (sniff)

Is a second account better than having a dual character? Also, it seems that they charge more for the ability to train a second character than for a second account. Am I missing something?

There are certain times that it is advantageous to have an alt, if only to get you doing what you want to be doing quicker.

For example, if you want to make a manufacturing character that can mine/refine a few rocks and also be able to fly a freighter to haul everything to and from your facility, you can well do it.

But you'll get into business a lot quicker if you have a builder, a miner and a hauler all training at the same time. In this case you could even do it all on one acct with the new dual training scheme CCP has launched. For many, it's just easier to do that than spend two years training all the skills onto one character.

There are other examples I could give, but it really boils down to time. It's a lot better, from a time management perspective, to train a few specialists at the same time than spend three times as long making a character that can do it all.

So, while it's by no means mandatory to have multiple characters, it can certainly get you where you want to be a little quicker.

Thank you all.

My sidekick is born, and already I'm happy I chose to do so.

Once again, all the constructive feedback is greatly appreciated, I'm amazed how friendly this community is for a game that's advertised and known to be harsh and cold.

Cheers.

You were friendly, took an insult in stride and posted constructively, start whining and shiptoasting and you will see another side of the forumsTwisted

Well, the advantage of the second account is that you can have both online at the same time. If you want to keep both "forever", a second account is much better than dual training.

The disadvantage of a second account is that, when you stop paying, you have to either pay 20$ to transfer the character to your main account or you'll become unable to use him completely. While with dual training, when you stop paying, you can still use that character (just not train him simultaneously).

E.g. if you just want a station trading alt to save on taxes, dual training is better, as you don't need many skills for that.

You never have enough alts, the major trouble is allocating the roles to either a secondary slot on one account or to another account, so the ones that require a particular character to be online at the same time can effectively do so. Then you also need to take into consideration (unless you run dual character training on the account) what role you want it to perform and stick to it, train just what you need and don't waste it by skilling something you could have done on another character ... starts feeling like EVEception at this point.

Also... I grew fond of my herd...Lol

Regarding the community, it's your attitude that does it for the most. Also, NCQ&A is the one friendly parcel of the forums, once you go places like GD or C&P it's all down the drain, don't be mistaken Blink.

Thank you, I consider that a sizeable compliment, considering I am simply being me.

So, if I have two accounts and run them at the same time, can I run them on one computer, or do I need two computers? If one, can I run a different one on different monitors?

They can operate on the same computer, single screen, no problem.

And you could have both clients open split between screens.

Not if you play in full screen, if you want to shuffle your clients around, you will have to switch to windowed mode.
EDIT: I don't see how to shuffle them around in fixed window mode either, but maybe someone has an idea.
